    Default Codes 41 & 42

    Hey Y'all,

    I have a fault somewhere....
Initially VP wagon died in traffic a week or so ago, it started to misfire then died completely. After cooling down for an hour or so I could drive it home. I have a 160 baud interface I made and WinALDL which shows up the fault codes. I got code 42 so I changed the whole ignition module. Cleared the codes and it seemed ok.
Alas, today same problem, car runs ok for a while then dies when warm and won't start, but now showing codes 41 & 42. CAS no doubt. ?
My question.... Could the CAS have triggered code 42 without showing 41 the first time?
AND... Can a code 41 trigger the code 42 as happened the 2nd time?
Or... is it likely I have a loom fault to the ignition module. Is this that common?

Without even looking at the codes, the symptoms are pretty much spot on for a faulty CAS. With a car, anything is possible, you can't always rely on what the ECU tells you, although it is a good starting point. Replace the CAS.

    Thanks Not_An_Abba_Fan,

    My thoughts also.
I cleared the codes by removing the fuseable link and took it for another workout today to get it to fault again, which it did and because I want the code to show up when I take it to a repairer. Of course it wouldn't list a code at all this time but it did start and keep running when I poured water over the sensor.

I'm supposed to be driving north 600k on saturday so I hope I can find someone to do it before then.

Anyone on here in Perth and working tomorrow who might be interested?

I don't have the radius tool nor time to get it right.

If you want to come to Bunbury, I'll do it for you. But there are a few Perth guys that can do it, but whether or not they are willing is another story.

Ok, for anyone who might have similar problems, it was the CAS. Had a new on fitted yesterday and took the car back into heavy traffic today in 42c heat. No probs. So even though I initially had a code 42 it was the CAS faulting the ign module.

    VN4ever good news...

for general info: i have an iffy CAS at the minute and until i get a newey installed a spanner spinner told me to hit it with water (a litre or so) whenever it plays up (when it gets hot)... seems when they get hot and if they have a small crack that opens up and they wont play again till they cool down... so i have had to do it a few times and that does the trick....

i bought a new CAS but i am a bit worried about pulling the balancer off to put the new cas on...
