i reckon the my ride section isnt for posting about the problems you're having with the car.

can you describe the ticking noise in more detail? could be lifters, injectors, tensioner pulley, all sorts.

15 40 is to thin and will make the engine make ticking sounds take it out and put in some 20-50

Also, before your next oil change, run some engine flush through it to clean all the lifters etc, I did this and took off the rocker covers to find they were clean as! So it works. If its not that, it will probably be your injectors.

Run the thicker oil, it's your rockers. My car does it when its getting low on oil.

id say itl be lifters. there is actually "lifter free up" additives out there. every now and then may get it actually working on a car. could be worth a try after your next oil change to something a little thicker.

A thiner oil will do that its an older engine not a new car needs abit more thicker old. if not take a rocker cover off and check the rockers see if there move abit might need to retorque the bolts down mine did it alot. hope this helps

Being a VN which is a 20 year old car,it sounds like a noisey lifters, there isnt much an easy fix you best chance is to replace them, you could try adding
500ml of auto transmission oil to the engine oil and run it for at least 1000kms before changing the oil and filter,i would replace it with a 20w 50 or even a 20w60 grade of oil.The auto oil helps breaks down the build up of burnt oil in the engine and may also help loosen a stuck lifter. But it isnt a garantee, suggest replacement of all lifters.
