    Default Car hit

My car just got hit in a car park today. I was at pine island having a swim. only canberra people will no where that is, but anyway me and my mate were walking up the stairs after our swim and i hear a crunch, then my alarm went off. I was about 50 meters away so i dropped all my stuff and started running after the car because they were going to drive off. Anyway after they seen that i looked like a was going to kill someone, they pulled over and gave me there details and i gave them mine.

They are insured with aami. I was just wondering how i go about getting it fixed because they didnt no either. She said she would call aami later. My car doesnt look to bad, but theirs is pretty bad. I was just wondering if i get a few quotes, do they give me the money 1st? or does it go straight to the repairer. Because i already have a spare tail light and my dad can knock out the dint and respray it, so i can get a bit of spare cash? i just dont know how any of this works. You cant really see much damage in the pic on my car, but you can see how hard they hit it on theirs. Oh and her excuse for hitting my car was, it was too low and she couldnt see it haha

If you have the parts there ready to go I would just ask them for some cash for your trouble. Rather than go through her insurance, its going to make her costs/charges go up wont it? Quicker for you and easier for her.

ring aami and tell them you were hit, and they will ask for all her details and a description of the incident that occured, then they will handle it all for you!

Well i have only 3rd party insurance. She had full insurance and she called them, and i have to get 2 quotes. So i guess i cant just get cash. Her car has quiet a bit damage so she will use her insurance anyway

Try and push it all through her insurance that way it doesn't go on you insurance co's record and also that way you don't have to cough anything up.

Isn't that the norm when the other person is at fault, is insured and admits it? (very luck to get all three without them arguing! that happens a lot)

Make sure you have a witness you can call on in case they start changing their story.

Well i wasnt even in my car and it was parked so it cant be my fault. Its just the bloody women cant drive. She called her insurance and its all going through hers so its all good. Just wanted to know if i get the cash before the car gets fixed, or does it go straight to the repairer after its repaired.

You get the quotes and forward them to her or her insurance, they tell you where to get it fixed and it'll be charged to her insurance people. You never pay a cent.

Sometimes the other insurer doesn't want to know a thing about it and tells you to contact your own, similar to what happened to me when a rental car wrote off my car.

Normally you send it to the repairer and they forward the bill/claim paperwork onto the insurer and then get paid, so in theory you don't get a cent. Done this way most of the time to cut down on fraud, ie you get a higher quote and get the work done cheaper elsewhere.

good thing you have photos, when some clown backed his boat in the front of my dads vx and left a boat motor groove over the entire length of his bonnet the bloke said he would go through his insurance long story short he had no boat insurance or car insurance, lucky that my dad took all details from his licence and not going by word and reported it to police. Last time we heard dads insurance took him to court to recover costs and dad didn't have to pay anything.

So its probably in case of accident no matter how minor i will reoprt it to police so at least you have backup cos' you cant trust people.

What i would do is to get a couple of quotes from the dearest repairers in town, then write a "letter of demand"
IE : i ................ hold you .....................solely responsible for the repairs to my motorcar reg #... ... which you collided with while it was parked at "location" at ...am/pm. on the 6/1/08. signed ............... dated ..............., get it typed up,send pics and keep a copy

then send it by registered mail that way she has to sign for it,also put in a note explaining that the cost of repairs are below $1000 ? and if she wants to pay you in cash it is acceptable, that way she wont affect her no claim bonus.
This what i did when a woman backed into the door of the VS i had,you might think that its a bit over the top,but if you do it this way then she has to act on it coz its a legal document.
    Regards Phillip

I had a similar situation where my car was hit in the door. I went to AAMI, gave them the name and address of the other driver and that was that. The car was fixed, cost me nothing and they took care of extracting the money out of the other party (It's their job).

Haha yeah well i heard the crunch 50 meters away and my alarm went off. And after i chased her down, she looked at my car and went, oh good its not that bad, then nearly had a heart attack when she seen the damage on her car. My dad use to be in the panel beating/spray painting trade so he knows a few good ones. We are going to them to get some quotes tomorrow morning.

The lady who ran into me, and her husband seemed like pretty good people, and i think they got worried when was running after them with no shirt on and looked like a wanted to kill them, so im pretty sure all should be good. She called me this avo, and said she just called her insurance, and told me to get 2 quotes and drop them in her letter box tomorrow so things can move along quicker. I know where they live now so no escaping

Got a couple quotes today. one quote was $890 to fix it and the other was $1100. thought it would have been cheaper for the little dint and tail light. but ohwell i dont have to pay it so its all good. I gave them the quote and they said its all good and will tell insurance about it this avo, I will just have to wait and see now. The only problem is im starting a 7 week electro course next week and its on the other side of canberra so i really need my car for the next 2 or 3 months. So im hoping i can somehow get a check from her or the insurance and then i can get it fixed when i want, or just fix it myself.

Just delay the repair then or push for a loan car. Insurance co's rarely pay out cash to cut back on fraud. What's to stop you or any other person going and blowing the money on the pokies?
