    Default VN Standard Brakes

    Hey all-

Just chasing some info on standard brakesfor vn v8 ss. My pads and discs were reasonably new when i bought the car, but the braking is absoloutely crap.

At idle in D press pretty damn firmly just to stay still - even on an incline.

At low speeds i have to press the brake in firmly (about half-way down to get the brakes to come on)

Hard braking does not even exist and when the pedal is firmly to the floor the car will not lock-up and i basically have to pray that jeebus is watching and will help me slow down.

are all standard braking systems this bad?

    Cheers,

    Jazack

No not at all. The VN brakes are not the best but I'd say you have some air in the lines or you have very cheap pads in the car.

    Recommend a brake service ASAP.

agreed, the pedal should never reach the floor under normall driving conditions. definitly bleed the brakes ASAP and if that doesn't firm up the pedal you need to look a bit deeper into the problem. if there is no air in the lines then maybe the master cylinder is stuffed

There is a vacum hose thing that runs from the brake servo unit to your manifold.

check the connection is good and that it does not leak.

just a suggestion..happened to me once.

    cheers

if there were a leak or that hose was broken the brakes would be stiff.. youd struggle to actually get that pedal to the floor let alone brake...

id say bleed all your calipers in the right order and see how you go there. if not id look at a new master cylinder..

just out of curiosity are you loosing brake fluid.......... do you have brake fluid in it? stupid question possibly. but it happens

The correct order is the furthest wheel from the booster/master cylinder to the closest mate.

So thats rear left, rear right, front left, front right

    spot on.

get some decent fluid in there and get that nasty air out. and she should be much better.
