Hi There
Just wondering if anyone has any info?
Need to replace the hot/cold unit (the bit behind the dial) as it has jammed. Would like to do it myself but would appreciate if anyone could tell me the easiest way to access and remove this unit?
Cheers
It's pretty easy:
Remove the ashtray from the console and use the ashtray hole as a handle to pull out the trim around the gear selector. The retaining clips are on the sides and the front is secured by a couple of tabs. If you have a manual, you will also have to unscrew the gear knob. Undo the cigarette lighter harness connectors and remove the trim.
Undo the three screws now revealed that hold the trim around the radio. Pull that trim out, off the retaining clips, and undo the switch (A/C etc.) harness connector(s) to release the trim.
Using a small flat blade screwdriver to lift the retaining tab, undo the white plastic clip holding the pushrod for the hot/cold vent flap that you will find above the driver's side transmission tunnel, behind the hot/cold control dial. Turning the dial fully clockwise would make it easier. I guess you don't have that choice.
Undo the screw holding the vent control - fan speed - hot/cold dial unit. Pull it out far enough to remove the vacuum line manifold and the harness connectors for the lights and fan speed switch.
That's it.
Putting it back together is the same but when replacing the clip on the pushrod for the hot/cold dial, the pushrod needs to be set so that the vacuum switch for the heater tap is off with the dial fully cold (when you do the job that will be clearer).
