I have just purchased a VPII executive V6 auto. On it's maiden voyage, I noticed that at speeds above about 80km/h, when the vehicle travelled over slight bumps, the speedo needle would drop back momentarily, before flicking back to the correct position. It seems like some type of loose electrical connection. Any suggestions?
I believe the speedo sender connector is located underneath the car next to the gearbox, its a little white cylinder about 5-6cm long, hop under the car and have a look for it (it may be dirty and not white anymore lol) and take it apart and give it a blow out and put it back together and try again.
most likely speedo sensor as i had similar problems with mine....changed it no more problems......however i changed it with on i had as a new one was 200 bucks and a secondhand one was 90 but then again i live in a place where the wrekers are ****ing expensive lol![]()
mine started to flicker now it has stoped all together i put in another sender unit and still no go..i think my prob is no power getting to the unit to send back the pulse
i have the same problem,i changed the speedo unit behind the cluster and speedo sender which cost me 13 bucks and still not working
Could quite possibly be a dodgy earth by the sounds of it or a broken circuit board on the back of the cluster or the regulator on the small circuit board inside the cluster has a dry joint.
its a diferent cluster though,,i will check the earth wires
Speedo sensor fuse in the panel under the steering wheel, you can thank VN Luke since he told me what it was when mine broke![]()
is the black wire screwed in under the steering column the earth for it also as its loose
if the speedo sender unit(on the box) is replaced I'm sure the problem will be gone .there was a thread a while ago on this subject basically the electrical current is interrupted and it cant share the pulse with the ecu. happened to me some months ago now less $400 and 4 demerit points but it works now,$33 at wreckers
If i wanted to break ya balls i woulda kicked ya girlfriends handbag
It's an old(ish) thread but to check the sensor itself:
1) Unplug the speed sensor connector at the transmission.
2) Wire the pink/black trace wire on the sensor to battery voltage (run another wire back to the battery).
3) Run another wire from the black/white trace wire to earth.
4) Connect a test light between battery voltage and the violet/white trace wire.
5) Rotate the driveshaft and the test light should switch on and off through the sensor, if it is working correctly.
