I don't really know but I would think you should be able to replace it.

For VT/VX yes it can be replaced - the GM part number is 09152245 (yes that's the correct number), current price $48.18 retail.

You can also buy an "Ambient sensor repair kit" (new sensor plug) part number 92144967, current price $22.74 retail. This replaces the plug that plugs into the sensor itself. Apparently water can get into the plug (causes a short circuit) meaning the outside temp reads too high. I've just fitted the new sensor plug and the oustside temp seems to be reading correctly now. Let's hope the f-kken thing stays that way this time!

I have no idea if the two part numbers i mention above can be used on other models or not.

yeah my outside (a,bient) temp reads fine it must be my inside temp thats why i think its the sensor thats on the actual climate control unit itself in the dash. the actual unit with the buttons and siplay on it has a sensor on the bottom of it ( a tiny thing) if i could get a new one i could remove the old one and solder a new one on.

Do you mean VR/VS or VT/VX?

If it's a VR/VS (see PIC #1) then AFAIK you cannot buy a replacement resistor/sensor as such, only the whole unit, as the sensor is actually part of the whole assembly. Surely you could get one from Dick Smith or similar, remove the old one and solder the new one in etc, but i have no idea what exactly you'd need and what resistance/rating.

If it's a VT/VX/WH (see PICS #2 and #3) then i assume yes you can buy a replacement - it's a small black plastic assembly that is under the dash surround, to the left of the steering column, where the small oval-shaped vent in the surround is. The one in my pic was out of a wreck and it doesn't have any part number stamped on it - just ask your local Holden Spare Parts folks, assuming its still available new they should be able to order one in for you.

spot on man with the VR/VS picture. thats the exact resistor/sensor thing im after. i might remove it and take it into dickys and see if they have something i can use. i dont want to replace the whole unit if i can help although if i see a cheap second hand one somewhere.

There's a few secondhand VR/VS ones on feeBay atm if you're interested. In 04 or 05 (when i still had my VR) i was quoted $450 for a new one from Holden.

btw maybe you could get a VT/VX one from a wreck and unsolder the sensor from it, then solder it into your VR/VS unit? Just a thought - you'd have to be sure though they are the same rating/do the same thing etc otherwise it won't work.
