VN Pod filter housing

I was thinking of removing the K&N filter and replacing with a pod filter.
I've seen pictures of a street legal skyline the had the left front headlight removed and instead it has an air intake hole and am wanting to do the same with my car, and having the hole lead into a housing for the pod filter.
Would alluminium be alright for the housing or would it not shield against heat? And would the pod filter provide better air intake than standard K&N filter?
HOw is having a headlight removed street legal?

It could be street legal and the light was only temperley removed for a drag. As thats were the intake is.

Basically, on a stock V6, you're going to get more performance gain out of the standard airbox with a high flow filter and a cold air intake, than with a pod filter anywhere in the bonnet. Unless you construct yourself a fully enclosed pod filter housing which runs into a cold air intake, it's going to be counter-productive. The difference between hot engine bay air on a day like today, and ambient air which could be up to 50 degrees cooler, can be up to 5hp or even more.

Pods are good for use with a supercharger or turbo, because they have a higher flow, and heat up the air anyway... but that's about the extent of their benefit. Your V6 should never flow more than a stock panel filter can handle. I know mine doesn't

I've done G-Tech runs with my panel filter in, and with the panel filter removed altogether... I just run a CAI, and I noticed no difference in times with or without the filter.

I have more pics but cant find them. I ended up sealing the thing up with hot glue gun.

Yeah thats what i was thinking of.
The reason i wanted to do it is for the noise of the pod filter but i was told Cai of the K&N was better, i just assumed a pod filter with a housing would be like Forced Cold air intake.^^'

You should do a few consecutice runs without the filter and tell me if anything bad happens.

Nothing bad will happen. I know a bloke who runs his lancer filterless 24/7 'cause it's a thrashcar. But I wouldn't run without a filter for an extended period of time on a good car, because dust and sand will get into your motor - and you run the risk of fine grains of sand turning into glass and shredding piston rings and bearings. Nothing worse than contamination in the motor

An idiot I know 'forgot' to reattach his pod to the intake pipe from engine so he had an intake pipe coming from the engine and nothing attached to the end, just a hole and he reckons it went hard lol

I ran mine with just the hose for awhile when i stacked my car, it whent pretty hard maybe just because i was giving it ****. i put a sock around the hose though.

To tell you the truth, with all the effort I put into doing mine on the V6, it wasnt worth it. Just run the OTR CAI and a standard pannel.
