lol i guess its just started doing this? you havnt just re wired anything on the ignition side? sounds like youve bridged the wiring for the starter somewhere.

havent rewired anything at all, it did start this by its self as my husband drove up the drive way and it stalled, went to start it again and it wouldn't start,

anyway he had a look around and found that the main power wire going to the starter and the little single wire had melted together from it being against the block, so we changed that part of the loom and yer now its trying to start by its self,

we've changed the loom with 2 diff one's from the orig and it still is doing that same thing...........

All i can think of now is Auto elec

Maybe it fried the ignition switch. It could be melted inside so that there are terminals or wires touching. Unplug it from the barrel and have a look.

The single wire that goes to the starter motor is the trigger wire that makes the starter motor kick in when that gets power. I would say that it has melted somewhere further back in the wiring and getting constant 12 volt power

This would explain the car trying to start all the time

If you have a multi meter you could try removing the main power to the starter motor and testing the single (trigger wire) to see if it is getting constant power

Maybe the starter motor solenoid is stuck on ??
Remove the trigger wire to see if it still wants to start.

Reminds me of a prob I had in my old VC, for some reason one day the car just kept auto accelerating at about 30km and it wouldnt stop even with the H/brake on it would be almost taking off. the problem fixed itself the same day but nothing cause it and i did nothing to fix it, it just stopped. Pretty cool to have a car you just have to point and brake

ok guys i unplugged that purple wire to the solinoid on the starter motor, attatched the battery and it didnt start to turn over by itself and there is power to everything now,

so now my question is how do i figure out where the purple wire to the solinoid is getting the power from???

Have you got a circuit diagram ?? Follow the circuit back from the starter. I would take a guess that now the starter motor is ok, the next place to look would be the starter motor relay (if there is 1).

You are looking at a VN V6, try here http://www.memcals.com/pdf/VN_V6%20Wiring%20Diagram.pdf

Just looking at the starter circuit, there is not much that can go wrong.

EDIT: oops, just saw you had a VN V8. http://www.memcals.com/pdf/VN_V8%20Wiring%20Diagram.pdf

the purple solenoid wire gets power from the starter motor relay in the fuse box above your battery, swap relays over with a similar one, if its not that then chances are your ignition switch is faulty and sticking at START instead of ON

ok now my husband is askin the plug that connects to that single purple wire, is it ment to split into 2 one going to the "START" relay and one going to the "LP CHK"??

He's tryed switchin relays and still the same thing, he's getting 12v from both the "START" and "LP CHK" Relays, is this right??
