i know what u mean mate
it doesnt give it more power (vn series 2 onwards have it) it just makes it run rough (only improvement is at 100% throttle - as my mates with vps tell me. they have done this and want to put the bellmouth back in)
if i remmeber correctly its called a bellmouth. and its located in the intake manifold (correct me if im wrong)

Yep the part you are talking about is called the Bellmouth and it was fitted to improve the air distribution to the rear cylinders of the engine. The Bellmouth helps to provide an even air fuel mixture throughout the engine which improves the smoothness of the engines idle. To be totally honest with you I noticed very little difference in performance after removing my Bellmouth and yes the idle became rougher, but hey if I wanted a smooth idle I wouldn't have brought a car fitted with a Buick V6 After 3 weeks of driving around with the Bellmouth removed I decided that I might as well reinstall it because it was really making stuff all difference.

Here are the instructions on how to remove the Bellmouth:

I think the guy is talking about the little funnel shaped mini cold air intake at the air box itself, correct me if i am wrong. the little snorkel some people call it doesnt do stuff all its all blocked off so might aswell pull it out and then it wouldnt do stuff all anyway, but go to holden and get a VS S/C CAI and put it to the box it will sit over the radiator and that will give you more performance dont put a pod on it cause u dont want to suck up hot air from the engine bay. there is a thread for installing the CAI to VN VP its difference cause the bonnet doesnt shut proper but some people heat the corners and shut the bonnet so it fits better i put 1 onto my VN S1 and had no problem with it doesnt rub on bonnet the intake is small at the front i cut mine back about 1-2CM to the lines opened it up for more air flow good luck hope this helped.

Yeah I reckon hes talking about the funnel on the airbox too, removing that only makes the hot air situation worse, better to go for the above setup ^^^. But rather than cutting the thing to open it up, if you have a heat gun and some socket extensions and sockets and bits of wood use that to heat it up and bend it into a wider mouth

Has anyone tried 2 different cai to their airbox?
example: person has the radiator cai at the front of their body with the snorkel attached to the front of the airbox, on the side of the airbox they have another separate pipe going to their front bar (like Mortons setup) which would mean 2 separate air pipes.
Has anyone done this and more importantly is it better than a 'normal' setup?

89 VN untill a few weeks ago I had that setup, I've run my best time with that setup infact. BUT a single 100mm pipe to the front gaurd is better, which is what I'll be running later on. Right now I just the single 80mm pipe to the front bar. I feel 80mm is enough for my car at the moment. The best thing about having both is that you wont suck water into the engine if you drive across a river

After playing around with my car and different setups, i have a pipe from front bar going to the airbox and then a heat shielded pod inside the box which i cut abit, so now the actual pipe is inside the middle bit of the pod inside the airbox and they are almost touching so the air goes right into the pod.

I havent had the money to try a kn panel filter yet ($130 for a filter, 70 for a pod..?) only tried the ****ty holden filter ive got which is probably years old and the pod works better for now.

would you be able to post picks of your air box (where you cut it to see how the pod fits in) and how to put that pipe in, because i have no idea how to put a 100mm pipe down to the front bar, i cant see any space for it?

Look at this thread Yellow Sticker for this? look at Mortons cai, its cheap and effective

I had to cut a tiny hole in this underguard thing to make room for it to bend round, the hardest part about this setup is just making a perfect airtight hole for the pipe coming out of your airbox and then clipping the piping to something. If you have the tools and know what your doing this is very easy
under your left wheel arch theres a piece of steel looks like a U connected to a big bit, thats a good spot to clip the pipe in place. Theres literally tonnes of CAI information on this page and say Street Commodores and of course other may like some setups better so id sugges looking around a bit
