hey guys,
once again, me being the dumb**** i am needs help! my car has been running a lil hot as of late so i poped the hood to find my over flow bottle is empty? is it spose to be? i have pleanty of coolant in the coolant bottle. im just mega confused at the moment!
Cheers for any help!
How is the cap on the coolant bottle? Change that first. $8 is cheap.
You are losing water. What happens is the coolant expands when warm, goes into the overflow, when it cools it gets sucked back into the main bottle. If the cap is buggered it will let too much coolant into the overflow and it overflows out of that onto the ground when you are driving. Then when it cools and gets sucked back, it will totally empty the overflow bottle.
coventrys auto one mals any auto store lol just give them a ring to see if they have one first. amcap too
13.3 1/4 exhaust only untuned!
Same on my '95 VS.
Temp gauge is never very high but sometimes after a drive coolant is dumped out of coolant bottle as it fills up to the cap.
When I look at radiator coolant is always up to radiator cap , temperature is low but reservoir bottle empty!!
Im a bit confused as to what might be causing this.
Does anyone out there know how this system is suppose to work as im pretty sure the reservoir coolant bottle is full only when engine is warm.
Thing thats got me buggered tho is the engine temp gauge is never above half!!
There is a cold and a hot level. The cold level is lower than the hot level. For too much coolant to be forced out into the overflow, it will either be the cap or a buggered thermostat. The cap is the cheapest and most common problem. I would say the thermostat isn't opening.
hey guys... bit of an update. it turned out to be a blocked radiator. took her to the shop today so its gettin fixed a we speak!
get it flushed
will be sweet then
Gone Fishing...
Update: My problem was fixed when I added a new radiator cap. when I added some quality coolant to the engine I made sure I didnt OVERFILL the system. The previous owner might of overfilled the system just before selling me the car aswell which didnt help.
the op had an s1 v6, so the cap on the coolant bottle is the equivalent to the radiator cap on your car anyway. what do you mean by overfilling the system? the only overfilling you can do is filling up the overflow too much - and worse case scenario the first time you drive your car the overflow bottle will overflow and the excess coolant will be lost... causing no damage...
