    Default VN Brake problem?

    Hey

Was driving dads car yesterday (VN V6) and i went to brake, but the pedal almost went down to the floor and all I heard was a grinding noise.. I just missed the car infront of me.. but the brakes have worked perfect since... only problem with the brakes at the moment is the rotors need changing (they are a little warped)..

    Any ideas?

that may be why, warped rotors aint a good thing, but by the sounds out it i'd lean more towards air in the brake line... so i suggest bleeding ya brakes..and get them rotors replaced...$20 each at a wreckers

    or $40 brand new.......

sounds like air in your brakes. bleed them and put some decent fluid back in. make sure you bleed in this order

yeh its best to do it from the furthest to the closest wheel as if ya do it, lets say, front right.. back left etc... you can run the risk of more air (if any) entering the lines

brake rotors being warped will give off a bit of a shudder under decel and braking.

try bleeding your brakes if that fails id be looking at your master cylinder leaking into your booster perhaps.. it happens.

Yes it shudders on braking.. not on decelleration tho.. and the pads are fine..

Ill bleed them tomorrow and see how it goes... cheers guys

if its shuddering then youll need to replace them. bleed your brakes, and get some new rotors and seing as your pads all alright you should be braking properly in no time.

Without actually looking at the car it would be difficult to pin point the problem.

If there was air in the system, the pedal would be soft all the time. The thing that is a concern is the grinding noise accompanying the soft pedal. Check the thickness of the material left on the pads, if it was thin then the pad may slip out of its correct position in the caliper giving a long pedal travel and the grinding noise. It may have popped back in when you released the brakes.

just a thought...with ur rotors being warped the pads would be wearing to match that warp, maybe you should consider replacing the pads as well

Pads don't really wear to "match" a warp. They can match grooves but not a warp.
