Hi, my VP Executive is losing power around corners. When I go straight and put my foot down it picks up speed again. I have just changed the crank angle sensor, computer, coil pack and the ECU - under coil pack. If anyone can help with a diagnosis, that would be a great help. I am lost.
Have you checked your trans fluid level?
sounds like its something to do with the fuel tank
It sounds like a problem with fuel pick up. Possibly the return fuel return line is not directing fuel back into the swirl pot (in the tank) or the pump isn't sitting properly in the swirl pot.
Do the revs increase or decrease when cornering?
The car loses revs around corners, the trans fluid is fine. I am also finding sometimes on take off I have the same problem. I initially thought water in the fuel, but I have had that checked and all was fine there.
I would have said the gearbox oil for sure straight up, but if you sure that's ok then the only other option is something to do with the tank but I really thought it would be the gearbox oil. I'd add more oil to the gearbox just to see
definately something to do with fuel pick up the ecu is located inside the passenger kick panel btw under the coils is the dfi. but any who maybe your fuel pump is getting old or as the earlier post said the pick up not sitting in swirl pot properly you'll probably need to take the pump out and reposition it in the tank again or just go buy a new one and put that in
Thanks, I will try that and see how I go.
ok, im gunna risk getting flamed here lol...just a question that i noticed no one asked..is ur car on LPG?
i only ask cause one of my cars did the same thing when it was on gas
no, it's not on gas.
mine use to do this, like if i was going around a roundabout the car use to lose power like a big miss in the engine or something, i just had to hold the revs a little when i did it, id say its fuel related, like the pump isnt getting enough fuel, first do what aries said and repositon the pump in the tank, see if that helps... also bit of a noob question but how does the gearboxes oil level play a part in this??
Oil levels are fine. I am losing water, but that is from a leaking gasket and hose.

damn burnz beat me to it...
fuel surge for sure, common as in VP/VNs...
Dont drive around with low amounts of fuel... thatll fix it, cant rember how to fix it fully but
aZk.
same azk sufferd fuel serge in a VL but could not solve the problem .
new pickup/pump new main pump but round a corner would die
allways must be above 1/4 tank of juice to avoid it.

I use to get it in my old vn manual i'd say its fuel pump... either that or the auto
kilowatts are like drugs, the more you get, the more you want.
Hi everyone, thanks for your help previously, let's hope you can help again. I have a new second hand fuel pump from just commodores spares. My dad replaced the pumps over and I took my car for a drive today. I still have a problem. There was just over a quarter of a tank of juice, I went around a corner at about 60kms (It's a long corner), the car lost power, but when it kicked in the car backfired, and then drove fine. If anyone has any other suggestions, I am open to trying them all.
Did your dad happen to look inside the tank with the pump out and check the swirl pot and that the return line hose is connected to it inside the tank, 'cos that's what we're back to.
the (lean) backfire is certainly indicative of a fuel supply problem.
Long shots:
Was a new strainer fitted to the fuel pump?
Have you tried a new fuel filter?
I had this problem and replaced Coil pack CAS Fuel tank fuel pump/filer did heaps of things and i fixed it ended up being the Sender its self so if u have a mate that does not have this problem just do a swap and see if it helps if it doesn get another sender hope this solves your problem.

I will get my dad to check everything again. I have recently put in a new fuel filter. I ran it with over half a tank today and had no problems. I don't know about the strainer. Have to find that out. Thanks again
Thats the thing the car wont cut out with half a tank anything under that and it will and the lower the fuel the more it cuts out. Just try and borrow a Fuel sender with normal fuel pump and 1/4 tank of fuel see if it fixes it.

Howdy, great suggestion, only problem is the closest I can get is a VR and I don't think they are compatible (correct me if I am wrong, please). I will have to get one priced in the morning and see if I can't get one. Are you saying I should try a new or borrowed sender with my old fuel pump first? Sorry if I sound blonde, what do you mean by normal fuel pump, I thought that is what I just bought.
