    Exclamation Diff leak....Why nowwwww?

Not one oil leak for 2 damn years since I was at Regency last.... Now 3 days before im booked in to regency I get home after work this morning to see a puddle of diff oil on the ground.

The car has not really moved for weeks, it went to the mechanics for a service and check over on Wednesday, got it back friday morning. The car sat in the drive, then was put in neutral and pushed forward yesterday to give the underneath a wash, no leaks, no stains on the ground.

When I get home this morning:

What would have caused it? Im guessing its just a seal but to go like that when the car isnt even moving?

are all the face plate bolts tight? in your service they didnt check/change your diff oil did they? perhaps they changed the diff oil, loosened two lowere face bolts to drain it out and didnt do them back up properly, or else broke the gasket, or didnt put any sealant on it. that isnt really the bigest of jobs to fix mate.

I know but its a nuisance, there'd be a good 300ml of diff oil on the ground so i'll have to drain the oil and refill it and I cant get diff oil until tuesday cause of the public holiday, and I still have to take my front window tint off and fix some electrical bugs since my loom swap by wednesday. Its just not something I need at the moment.

It just seems very odd that its sat there a day and half and nothing, not a drop... Then bam all this oil has leaked out without the car even being run and then its just stopped again (its no longer leaking, its drying up).

The reason it started leaking now is because this is the most inconvenient time that such a thing could happen. Pure and simple.

You can still buy diff oil on public holidays. Sprint Auto parts is open every day of the year as varous other auto shops.

Too bad sprints keep disappearing. Pretty soon we'll just be a Supercheap state.

To me it looks like its come out the plug mate you sure the mechanic dident top up the diff oil ? and when it was pushed forward it would of moved the oil and hence the leack ? if its not leaking now just pull the plug out to check the oil level it could of just been over full so it might not need any oil or anything fixed ?

You guys are spot on, I put the car up on ramps and gave the diff a wash and you could see it was coming from the plug, the diff was overfilled.

The plug does look a little damaged though, so I might grab a new one (where its been pryed off).

    Thanks heaps for everyones help
