did a engine swap today and fired up but there is a wierd noise i have not heard before but it sounds like something is not getting oil.
the engine has been sitting out of a car for about 2 years but i have been spinning it over every few weeks by hand.
the day before this engine went i gave the rings a lube with some light oil threw the plug holes.
once the engine was in and with no plugs in i spun it over a few times thinking it would oil things up before i put spark and fuel to it.
anyhow i removed a tappet cover and there is no oil coming up the push rods could there be a blockage some where or could it be the oil bypass check valve in the pump.
but in the morning i'll be putting a pressure gauge on to see if i have pressure there and if i do i don't know what to do but if i don't i'll swap the timing cover from the engine i pulled out
guys i'm out of ideas. i have oil pressure at the pump but nothing coming up the pushrods and a loudish clatter noise
How long did you run it for?? Sounds like it just needs to get oil to the top end. If the motor has been sat around for that long it can take a few minutes of running to get oil back up to the top end. If it has oil pressure just run it for a bit longer and see what happens. Generally, turning the engine over on the starter will not get oil around the engine as the oil pump is not turning over fast enough. When i do engine changes, i just put oil in and fire it up straight away, thats normally the best way to get oil straight to the top end!
ok but i'm just worried, the noise sounds deep in the engine but the longest i'm game to run it for is like 20secs if that.
you were right tim, i let it idle just a bit longer and it slowly pushed oil up to all the rockers
Awesome mate, good to hear all is well!
just have to get to an exhaust shop for them to get some nuts on the stock manifolds as i did my best to round the nuts with the best gear at my disposal. would over fuel cause it to miss and back fire a bit? i'm still using my tuned haltech and 42lb injectors
