One of the old guys at work has a vp thats got a weird problem. When its been sitting in the sun all day it wont start. Its fine in the morning and fine if you just driven it but leave it in the sun for a few hours and it won't start. It's doesnt even turn over it got good charge (new battery) and you can hear the fuel pump prime and the like. Its also in good nic and only done 230 odd k's.
I had a bit of a look at it and can pretty much rule out cas sensor. Things i think might be the problem is the dfi module or faulty ecu. He said sometime it can sutter when driving it other than that it works fine. Also the immoblizers been turned off due to some previous problem (i think they lost the remote). He's been told by the mechanic it could be the barrel not making contact with the key but i dont think its that. He's planning on taking it to a sparky but he wants it for a few days and wont quote him he's a nice old bloke and i hate to see him get ripped off.
Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking tomorrow if it does it again i might swap the ecu from my car into to see if that make a difference.
Check the battery terminals for corrosion or loosness, check the starter relay and starter main cable for tightness.Maybe check that dfi module plug, have noticed on some VR's and VS's have had loose connections.I to dont think it would be the key responder because VP's dont have them. When holden went to the remote in key thats when they had started.Maybe also the remote being disconnected might have something to do with it?Hope that helps
Sounds like problem I had which would start 100% in the morning but had probs in the afternoon and would randomly die, I got new battery/connectors and appears to have fixed it but it doesnt explain why it always started in morning?
When you go to start his car what kinda reaction ? mine used to make the pump noise but when I turned the key it would make a weird loud "uhhhh" sound from the battery area and would have to repeat that till it started
id lean towards the dfi module, unplug it, make sure all the wires are in the plug properly, maybe get urself a can of electrical contact cleaner, spray the plug and socket put it back in and tighten it up n see how u go
