    Default Fixing Lock on VN

Hi guys, first time poster here. I visited earlier and got some very handy tips for removing my door trim. Thanks to those hints I've been able to get to the drivers side door lock which has been broken into by some fool punching a screw-driver under the casing for the door handle.
I've had a new car for some time but want to fix this one up to sell, I will be attaching pictures but my problem is I can't figure out what they've broken. The lock didn't work when on the car, turning the key wouldn't budge the inner latch enough and therefore wouldn't ever lock.
I think that somehow the hook pointing up should attach to the back of the lock but I'm not sure how.

If someone could provide me with some details on how to repair this or any ideas that will help would be greatly appreciated. Even if by some random chance your taking your door off a photo of how it's meant to look would be really handy. This forum has already been a help to me any more will be awesome, cheers.

With the handle in your hand, if you cannot turn the barrel with your key, go to wreckers, get another barrel and go to a locksmith and have them key the barrel to suit the old one. I think that when breaking in they have made a mess of the pins, probably tried the lock first.

thanks for the reply dodgy, the barrel is ok. I can still put the key in and turn it, I originally thought that I wasn't able to turn it all the way (I've got central locking and always used that before this happened) but I checked the passenger side and yeah the key turns the same amount.
So yeah they haven't damaged that at all, what they have done is punch a hole below the handle housing, this has obviously broken the link between turning the lock and moving the internal lock.

you can go to Holden and get a new barrel, its childishly easy to code and fit, but you say its ok.

Undo the 3 torque nuts holding your door mechanism in the door. the ones on the outside around the latch plate.

undo the 2 plastic clips inside holding the rods in place then pull it out with a bit of manuvering.

Then take the whole unit and gently throw it as far as you can...

go to the wreckers pull out the same whole unit and any little plastic things you may need, before you pull it off the car at the wreckers.. make sure it works,,turn it and look inside so you can observe what goes where and what bit does what.

If they have busted the door skin..you could also just keep the barrel and handle bit if it works then go to wreckers and get a full door, just put your barrel and handle in it.

    cheers

With it out can you manually lock and unlock the doors by pulling and pushing the rod?

Hey dodgy yeah mate door doesn't lock by pushing the rod down (can still open with handle), so I'm going with replacing the door latch as suggested above. I've removed screws but these plastic clips I can't find or undo (tough spot around that lock mechanism). About to head to U-Pull-it and grab one there see how I go. I'll keep you posted.
    Cheers guys

the clips are what hold the rods onto the mechanism, little white ones, they are just above the little hook bit at the end of the rods.
they just clip down on the rod and you can usually push em off with yr finger or a screwdriver.
