Exclamation Wheel nut thread snapped off

Heard some ticking, which turned into shiuddering coming from the front left wheel over the last week. Didn't bother looking into it nor had i got the chance to really look at it.

Finished up work today, comin home and it became real bad, so i pulled over straight away and a wheel nut thread had snapped clean off. Checked all the other nuts, and they were way too loose.

This has me stumped, the last time i had changed wheels (2 months ago) they were definatley tight and the wheel definatley flush against the rotor and out of the blue, they've became loose? Anyone have any ideas what may have happened?
    Cheers, Gaz

did u have the right wheel nuts for the rim, ie if u have chasers then u should
    have a taperd wheel nut.
if u dont know what rims do u have.

I've had that happen. Saw My left rear wheel flying through the air (looking out my passenger side window)

My biggest problem was finding a way to jack the car up without a wheel on it.

Always make sure that before putting wheels onto studs that all studs are clean (NO OIL or GREASE) and dry. Do up nuts to specified torque using a torque wrench. Anything else is usually a recipe for disaster such as wheel nuts working loose because they have been overtightened and stretched the lugs.

Because all tyre shops use a torque wrench to torque the nuts up to the correct spec. Oh, and we live in Australia, they are called studs, not lugs.

I do all my own up myself with a wheel brace. The time i had my wheel come off was my own fault, as i had spacers on, and the nuts weren't on enough turns.

No, they get lazy and use a air gun, and thread your nuts so you can't get them off with a wheel brace, when you have a flat.

And they do the first one up with the wheel hanging on the studs, rather than do one nut up finger tight first. (It avoids lifting the wheel up into position using the taper which otherwise eventually destroys the wheel and the nut).

I don't like oil or grease on wheel studs/bolts either. Some WD-40 or similar if you must, because it's not that great as a lubricant.

u should put a little little bit of grease or better some nickle anti siaze.
if the studs are dry there is more of a chance of u strippin the nut or
stud. they should never be dry. also the grease stopes the threads from rusting if the wheels are on for a long time.

and i am a tyre fitter by trade

and the main reason y shops tourqe wheel nut is so u can do it by urself on the side of the road
    when u get a flat.

I usually do all 5 up by hand first, and just tighten with the brace.
