Default Question re bypass coolant hose on VP Commodore

I have just replaced the short bypass hose behind the alternator on my VP.
The top most connection is a plastic piece which is bolted to the inlet manifold block. The bypass hose is pushed onto this plastic "pipe" and clamped.

My question is how long is this plastic "pipe" that you connect the bypass hose to? Mine didn't seem to be very long, about 1 to 1.5 cm and clamping the bypass hose on didn't seem to have enough to grip on.
Perhaps my plastic "pipe" connector has broken??

Also when pouring back the coolant how do I operate the bleed valve on the thermostat connection? Do I unscrew the bress screw completely whilst refilling?

This is the plastic 1 that came off my ute and i went to my local high pressure line shop (enzed) and got a new 1 in brass.

the factory ones are a bit crappy as the plastic gets hot and becomes brittle with age

Yea, thanks for that guys. Our local radiator shop and Coventreys gave me blank looks. They didn't know what I was talking about. Mine has definately snapped off as half of it is in the old bypass hose. I'll try and get a brass one as suggested. I'm going to have to take it off and take it with me obviously.

Got one of those hose connectors that push into the inlet manifold for $9.25 from my Holden dealer.

bleed screw, don't undo it all the way only or 4 turns should do it, i usually undo it just as the engine starts to come up on temp that way it has a little pressure behind it to start squirting out other wise undoing while its cold it probably won't bleed so you will end up undoing it before you know it
