Exclamation VN brake warning light won't go off

    Hi, guys
I have a VN comm and the brake warning light stays on until the car is turned off, the fluid is fine, does anyone know what else could be the problem and how to fix it?

It would be the brake fail sensor. On the side of the master cylinder under the reservoir. Undo it a bit until you hear a click, then do it back up. It will make the warning light come on if the brake pedal has gone to the floor.

    Default thank you

thank you, but we seen a mechanic today after I posted here ( we seen a auto-elec yesterday who told us we will need to leave it there a few days) the mechanic tried a new brake fail thingy but it didn't fix the problem. All he can tell us is that it needs to go back to the auto- elec but as we are out of town don't really want to leave it there afew days. looks like we might.

again a big thank you for your suggestions.

The switch has a spring loaded pin in it, when the brake pedal goes to a certain point towards the floor, the pin springs out into a groove in the piston of the master cylinder. If the brake warning light is on and that switch is OK, then it would have to be a fault in the wiring somewhere.

got another question if anyone can help. auto elec can't get it in for 2 weeks and hubby wants to have a go at fixing it himself but the manaul doesn't say what colour the wires are. like its got just letters, does anyone know what letter goes with what colour?

On the wiring digram somewhere will be a legend that explains the letters. Look at this, on the bottom LHS are the colours. http://www.oldholdens.com/temp/carst...t-oct-1989.jpg

thank you not_an_abba_fan, I thought there was meant to be as well, but have been told there must have been a printing mistake not that they will exchange it for one with out the mistake.

i always thought that light was abit of a joke, after all, i don't need a warning light to know the pedal is on the floor and the car isn't slowing down anywhere fast enough to not hit what ever is coming at me or is in front of me.

anyway, enough silly stuff. does the light go off if you pull the plug of the switch on the M/C (with ignition on)?

    nope, light stays on.
light comes on when start but goes out with the oil light and the rest but comes back on seconds later, stays on most of the time but sometimes when driving along and I look down and it's off, never stays off for long but does go off.
a question for the silly stuff... Does anyone need telling when their brakes do all that?
But for real there is nothing wrong with the brakes...they don't touch the floor, they passed good enuff for pink slip so pads are fine, fluid is all fine. and the auto elec can't or won't guarantee that he can fix it, says all they can do is run some test.

Just something out of the blue, check the charging rate of the alternator. Also, does it come on when idling? If it does, give the engine a rev and see what happens.

Camry's have this issue, when the alternator is dodgy it makes the brake light come on.

we r getting the alternator checked. And it does come on when idling and if you rev the engine nothing happens, the light remains
