Hi all!
Every now and then I have a problem with my air con. If the car is standing in the heat the air won't work and the car revs to 1300rpm. The engine light comes on sometimes and when I drive the car it feels like its towing 2 caravans. Also when it goes up a steep hill when this problem occurs it sometimes back fires.
Any body got any suggestions????
well the engine light is coming on so it must be a sensor. check the computer for codes see what it brings up sounds like CAS (crank angle sensor) when the car heats up the CAS expands and the car starts to play up. puts some cold water on the CAS when the car is playing up and see if it stops the engine light coming on. CAS is located behind the harmonic balancer. hope this helps

related to topic: my car is dual fuel, when i drive on petrol the engine light comes on periodically but i've never had a problem... wonder what's going on there? also i can't get codes out of the computer, engine light just flashes once really fast and that's all that happens!
The sensor code came up as the o2 sensor. I have pacemaker headers installed a couple of weeks ago and my mechanic told me that cause the o2 sensor is located lower on the headers that the computer gets confused. MMMMM!
Will the CAS not make my aircon work???
If the code indicates an O2 sensor fault and has only occurred after fitting the extractors, it will be because the sensor is operating at a different temperature than it was and the output voltage is different because the sensors are sensitive to temperature. You may fix it by using a heated sensor from a late VN/VP/VR if you don't have a heated sensor currently.
Is the O2 sensor the only code, because I was thinking TPS from the symptoms in your opening post.
Are you sure that you are connecting the correct terminals with the engine off, ignition on. It sounds like your trying to check for codes with the engine running.
It's probably also O2 sensor code or codes because the mixture control on LPG is slower responding, not as precise and more readily subject to poor tune. Factory approved LPG disable the O2 sensor codes when on LPG for those reasons.
I have had the aircon problem b4 the headers were installed. O2 is the only fault.
But no O2 code? It's possible that the two things are not related.
There are a few other things, most notably an engine miss due to an ignition fault (= tune - 'plugs +/or leads, dist. cap/rotor etc.), that can trigger an O2 code, though. That would result in a lean exhaust code as uncombusted O2 passes into the exhaust.
A fault in the throttle position sensor or perhaps manifold absolute pressure sensor matches the other symptoms.
