hi all.
i have a toyota hilux 4x2 that has a holden V6 in it.
it's a non ecotec motor, and i was told that it's from a VP, but as im about to embark on a rebuild,
ill need to know for sure where it's from, as it would affect part #'s ?
the engine # is VH1091XXX (last three digits left out for security reasons)
if anyone can help, ill be really greatful.
thanks in advance.
Jason
If it is from a VP it will be a SERIES II v6 Buick engine.
Telltale signs are thermostat at the front and aluminium fuel rails.
sorry mate cant help with the numbers but one phone call to local Holden genuine parts dealer and I bet they could sort it very quicky.
Gone Fishing...
thanks.
here's a pic of the engine bay.
from what you say, it does indeed look like a series 2 buick...
ill double check with holden 1st though....
thanks again.

The engine numbers for the VN started at VH100000, (or VH1001000) so you should have a motor in the first 91,000 made. I peg you engine number at around the Oct 89 manufacture date (put into cars on the assembly line)
Having said that the engine does look like a SII with the thermo housing at the front. Could be a VN series 1.5 too.![]()

thanks.
i had read somewhere that some of the later VN's had the series 2 motor in them.

This was the Holden SII official date for the 90 engine. Just had to look at my spread sheet a bit more.

the coil pack has bee replaced for a series 2 one.
i had to replace the original one, so i could get the tacho adaptor to work
correctly.
something about the early coil packs only having a 5 volt feed on the tach wire, and the later ones having 12 volts ?
that's what the manufacturer of the tacho adaptor said anyway.
as soon as i swaped the coil pack over, the tacho started working correctly.
