hey,
this arrived today Commodore VLWalkinshaw/VN/VP/VG/VQ ALDL Diagnostics Kit - eBay. (end time 26-Jan-08 01:25:21 AEDST)
and i got all excited and jumped in my car, plugged it in, booted up the lappy and winaldl checked the settings and off i went..... NO DATA! all i had was a flickering check engine lamp. is there something wrong somewhere? if someone can help that would be muchly appreciated.
not sure but with these kind of things you have to tell your computer or th program which port you are using. i.e. com 1,com 2, com 3 ect.

did you have it connected directly to a serial port on the laptop or through a usb converter?

Hi there,
Download EFILive from here: EFILive: Digital Tools for Onboard Vehicle Electronics (They have a free version) and make sure you select your particular car under "Vehicle Make". Mine worked straight away. I am assuming your cable is made correctly.

might want to select the right ecu in winaldl unless you just get efilive.
in winaldl, click configuration, then for ECM type, click the arrows til you find 1227808. and yeh, make sure its on the right comm port
I'm having same problemsBut I'm trying to run it through usb, Can it be run through usb? or do I have to connect it to the one on the back of the lappy?
I run mine through usb to serial adapter no problems some usb adapters are reported to not work but most are the same circuit inside you need to know what comm port the adapter is running as and set winaldl to the right comm port.I presume you loaded the driver for the usb-serial cable
goto start, control panel, system ,click on hardware, goto device manager,go down to ports comm/lpt you find it there.and if you plug it in a different usb port it will get assigned another comm number for each usb port
Woohoo thanks delcowizzidI got it working
now I just gotta work out what all these numbers mean

good to see you got it going the car will run a bit rough when its plugged in on a standard tune cause the timing gets cut back under 2000rpm and the blms wont be correct under 2000rpm so if you want to log cruise fuel ratio with the blm numbers and get a correct reading under 2000rpm youll need to get someone to burn you a tune with the diagnostic rpm turned down to 0000 then it will run sweet with the cable plugged in and will give you accurate blm numbers.you using winaldl or efilive I allways use winaldl myself.put up a winaldl log for us to have a look at.
