Default VN Series 2 into VN Series 1 berlina

    Hi,

I'm going to do an engine swap on my vn and reco the engine I've currently got in it atm as the motor and box have been in the car since the day it was built and both have almost had it.

The Plan.. always good to have one lol:

By the series 2 motor AND Transmission which are currently both bolted together. (Note the transmission is an auto and my berlina is an auto)

Buy a Series 2 radiator and the washer bottle and coolant reserve thingo plus the hoses (the hoses I'll just get from somewhere like super cheap auto or bursons).

    Fit it.

    Questions:

I've talked to the guy at work who I want to buy the motor and box from and he looked at my car and he said all you should have to do is take the engine out and do the easy stuff while there is room and fit the new radiator and washer bottle thingo, Drop the new motor and gearbox in it and then take my fuel rail from the old engine and put it on the new one. (note he said first to take the fuel rail off and pull it to one side). And it should all be a Plug and play.. IS THIS ALL CORRECT? I'm only checking for my own benefit of the dought as I have only known the guy for a week.

    Thanks guys (and girlys )

    James

I didnt even think the fuel rail needed to be changed? or maybe you mean the new motor doesnt come with it.. otherwise yep everything will plug in with the exception of lengthening the coolant temp sensor & gauge sender wires to the front of the motor(underneath alternator area), and changing to s2 cooling setup.

use whole S2 engine with manifolds etc, exhaust manifold is different between S1 & S2, use S2 exhaust manifold, its straightforward job all you need is complete wireloom as both are different.
    Done that with my VN.

I was under the impression that everything else apart from the above first quote would be all I would have to do... but hang on... isnt the series one temp and gauge sender for the cooling system up the back of the engine? wouldnt it be easier just to bring it to the front as they are both up the front??? meaning I wouldnt have to lengthen both sensors??

    Can someone comfirm this?

    Thanks,

By the way thanks vn6pwr and AlpineRaven for your inputs

Not sure what you mean, The only way to move them to the front is to lengthen the wires.... In series 1 both temperature sensors were behind the motor as that was where the thermostat was. When they moved the thermostat in series 2, the sensors were moved as well.

ah, yes, the old series 2 bits into a series one job.

    swap the following
motor, box, exhaust manifold, and complete wiring loom for motor.

if you change the motor and box, and dont do exhaust manifold, that's ok, you can get a custom exhaust made up no hastles. you will not be able to make hte vns2 motor work in the vns1 body without the loom swap. well you can, just takes heaps more time and effort if you dont swap looms, thats the easiest bit.
