Default aircon regased but takes ages to get cool

I just had my air compressor replaced with a 2nd hand one as my mechanic killed the original one trying to removi the noisy front bearing anyhow I had it regassed with all new o rings etc but when I start the car up and turn on the aircon it takes a few minutes before the air is cold.

before I had any problems with aircon it used to get so cold i could have made ice cubes but now isn't as cold but it is cold enough after a few mins.

the 2nd hand compressor on it now doesnt make any bearing noises etc and engages perfectly.

When I had it regased they changed a few things like o rings over and put new oil etc and put that dye thru it so this New ozone friendly gas could be put in.Also I asked him if the 2nd hand compressor is working fine he said yep its pumping good and no noises.

Im taking car back on saturday to get it checked again and also get the fan switch resistor replaced as only 3-4 works. The guy said on phone it could be my heater tap but its a new one as I had replaced it myself some months ago as the old one cracked and was leaking coolant.

I have somewhat of a warranty on the compressor I have now but I dont really want to have to get it replaced again and another regas .. ive already spent $400 on it so far.

    any ideas ?

Is the lever that the dial for hot/cold operates adjusted correctly (to the right of the console, above and left of the driver's footrest)? It should close the vacuum valve with the dial in the full cold position.

If the gas was changed when the new compressor was fitted from R12 to R134a, the system won't be as cold, as R134a is not as good a refrigerant ie. needs the system to be redesigned to suit.

that sux cause my aircon was cold as ice.

I actually thought it might have been the gassed used

I turned the dial all the way to coldest and also set to recirculate

So to get full cold ice air con then I would have to spend how much??? to exact R134a ?

I have been using the aircon everyday and have noticed it is getting cooler alot quicker so Im guessing the 2nd hand compressor hadn't been used for some time.I have also noticed with this exchanged compressor the car goes alot harder and doesnt struggle as much as the old compressor did , Im thinking it must have on its way out also this exchanged unit has like counter weights on the hub that weren't on the original compressor so must be off a vp.

I also refitted the small vacum hose on the heater tap which is 1 year old and thought when I had replaced it I didnt put back on properly.

    thanks for your help....
