Question do ute diffs have springs

I just bought a second hand ute diff for my VN (91) commodore ute. When I pulled mine own I discovered they were different.

Only difference is the new one doesn't have the round bracket welded on where the spring sits.

Ok stupid question time, does the diff have to have the springs, obvously it has shocks.

    Appreciate any help

    thnks

obviously ute diffs do have springs but since I don't own a ute I can't tell you what it should look like

The plates welded on your diff are for the bumpstops. The springs on ALL commodores are on the lower contol arms NOT on the diff itself. Utes have different bumpstops to sedan & wagons. I would say the diff you have is for a wagon.....Are you 100% sure it came out of a ute?? I.e. did you pull it out yourself??

my cousin bought an LSD diff for his ute which was out of a wagon. we cut the bumpstop plates off his old diff and weld them onto the new one. this is probably what you've come across.

you're on to it. The round plates were for the bumpstops, I got confused.
I think I will grind them off and weld them on, if anything, might just leave it..

mate nick them off completely and run the wagon bumpstops.... the holes are already in the chassis for them to slide right in cos you cant lower the back end of a ute any more than ultralows (for utes) without smashing it on bumpstops everytime you hit a little bump in the road. trust me on that one i own one and have modified my bumpstops so there is more clearance
