    Default VQ Statesman rear end

I've heard from a few people that it's pretty much impossible to have 18's under the rear of a VQ which is lowered. Apparently ya gotta spend big dollars to be able to have them.

Does anyone know anything bout this? Will a camber kit sort it out? A talked to a mate last night and he said his VS stato would go through the rear tyres in about 4 months, which were 18's. He said camber kit's fix about 90% of the scrubbing on the inside.

But yeah, anyone know anythin bout this. Hopefully I'll have a VQ soon and I wanna chuck me 18's on it.

I wanna leave it the way it is when I get it. I'm not sure how low it is, but it looks a bit lowered IMO.

Here's a pic of the stato I'm hopefully getting...and the 18's are the ones on the VH in my sig.

doesnt seam to bad it looks lower then it is with those spats on it...i would try fitting your 18s and then check how they sit... abit of trial and error

if u notice them sitting to far in just invest in a camber kit ... u will be able to fit ya wheels without spending heaps

i vaguely remember something about the later model VS hubs have a different offset to the earlier VP/VG/VQ. however not sure what you need to change to use em. definitly use the camber kit so you don't scrub the inside of the tyres

    Cheers guys.

Instead of starting a new thread I got a few more questions I'll just ask here.

Do u know if the 5.0L VQ's have LSD's? I asked my cous which owns the Stato and he wasn't sure if it had one or not, he just said "go have a look up the end of the street" haha....atleast he's honest I guess.

In the service manual thingo which was in the glovebox, it says to use "Synthetic gear oil, SAE 75W 140, suitable for limited slip differential"....so I was thinkin maybe it is?

Also, the trans doesn't like to change manually. Like in drive it will change ok as far as I know, but if I rev out 1st and slot it into 2nd it doesn't change, it just started bouncing off the limiter. When my cous was in the car with me he told me to give it sh*t and he did the gears and it seemed ok, but still something can't be right if it doesn't work for me hey? Sometimes in drive, if ya plant it, it doesn't kick back a gear. And also once it seemed to get confused and didn't know which gear it should be in and it just kept going from 2nd to 3rd, then I gave it a rev and it went into gear and it seemed fine.

This is what my Mum is worried about with the car. We know it would of been driven hard a few times coz that's the way my cousin is, but it was mostly used to go to and from work which I doubt he wouldn't of thrashed it then.

It's done just over 250,000k's. Does it sound like the trans is rooted, or maybe just need a service? My cous said it recently had a major service, but the trans was skipped so it needs a service. If it's stuffed, wat are they worth to pick up second hand in decent condition?

Here's a short vid I put 2gether coz I just love hearing the motor!!

check the build plate and see what the rear axle code is. the best foolproof way to check is to jack the back of the car up, turn one wheel and see which way the other one turns, if they both turn the same way it's LSD if the other wheel doesn't turn or turns in the oposite direction it's a standard open diff.

if it is LSD you can do a basic check of the LSD by dropping one wheel on the ground and leave the other up, it should take a minimum of 68nm to turn the wheel thats up in th air. if it's much less you can consider the LSD to be rooted and in need of a rebuild.

do some basic checks on the trans, fluid lever and condition, does it smell burnt? does it slip? as for not kicking down and jumping between gears, check the kick down cable. can't remeber how to adjust this one cause i haven't had a auto commy in years thats had a 700r4 trans
