has anyone actually done this themselves if so, how did you find it? what did you need, is it worth having a shot at yourself? tips? pointers? how tos?
You want to change the ratio in your diff?
Cheers

the procedure is simple, loosen wheel nuts, jack up car, drop driveshaft at input joke flange on diff, have someone in car with foot hard on brake and handbrake on (this stops the diff turning while you undo the pinion nut which is bloody tight!!!)
undo back cover to drain oil from diff, whilst your waiting for the oil to drain out, remove wheel, caliper (2 bolts 17mm) and brake rotor (make sure handbrake is off, can be a little fun if it's not been off for a long time). using a 1/2" drive ratchet with short extension + 14mm socket undo the 4 bolts that retain the drive shaft. reverse rotor onto hub, wind a couple of wheel nuts back onto the studs (only a few turns) and use rotor like a slide hammer to unseat the seal so you can slide the drive shaft out of the housing. repeat procedure for other side.
remove diff cover, undo 4 bots for bearing caps (keep everything seperate so it goes back where it comes from). using a small pry bar, wedge it agaisnt the face of the pinion gear and leaver the diff carrier out (take note of the shims on each side a keep seperate so they go back where they came from). also keep bearing race on the correct side as well.
now you can remove pinion from housing, again note the order of bearings/collapsable spacer/bearing and shims as these will need to go on the new pinion in the same order.
remove old crown wheel from diff carier (note, these bolts are a left hand thread) and fit new crown wheel.
assembly is reverse of above. take note however, once everything is tightened to spec, check the backlash/wear pattern of the pinion/crown wheel and see that they are within specs, if not, you need to change the backlash and wear patern using the shims that locate the diff carrier and shims on the pinion, this however is a procedure best left to proffesionals.
happy spannering
i pay a diff shop to do mine, last diff i had done, i supplied LSD center, he supplied 3.45 gears, reco'd LSD and fitted the lot for me for $300. for that kind of cash i cna't be bothered laying under a car

Dont use the wheel dude, use the disc just put it on backwards and 2 nuts and use it like a slide hammer alot lighter than the wheel.Have done many falcon diff axle seals and thats my method pulling the axles out.Diffs are very similar up until au.

can you put a 3.45 crown wheel in then add the lsd later on.
meaning a crownwheel is not part of the lsd.
sorry i have nix idea of differentials.
mind you a new crown wheel from Holden comes at 500$
cheers
