somebody call the wambulance. Would you like some cheese with that whine? Older cars have problems and there is no shortage of retards at repco, bursons etc.

1 week after i bought my car i spent $700 to fix heaps of stuff, a few weeks later i had a backfire my car was running like crap so that was another $300 to fix, then i had a trans cooler leak $100 to fix... then i had a power steering leak so i replaced the pump and that did crap all, now today my power steering leak got beyond manageable.. i used a whole bottle of the stuff (1 litre i think)... i think my rack is leaking... will cost hundreds to fix if i'm right...
then my car still drives like rubbish, needs new bearings, bump stops, link pins, bushes, struts, springs, trans, diff's leaking, car uses 20l/100km, bald tires (can't really list tires though, that's the same for every car) and probably a hundred other things.

oh yeah, and when i bought my car i knew nothing about cars or prices... i paid $3500 for it.
after stereo and wheels and repairs, i've spent around $6500.
my friend bought a vp calais 5ltr for that.

i know how you feel. terrible.

    fix my car please?
car's going in to the mechanics tomorrow. see what they say.
might have to sell if it it costs too much to fix ($800 for rack maybe? i was quoted $350 for p/s pump and hoses so that could be over $1,000 just to fix a fricken leak)
. i'll get like 2 grand for it.. after spending 6 and a half. gay.
as offensive as it is to justcommodores, i do wish i bought a magna or excel. i wouldn't have liked the car as much but i would have saved myself thousands. vn's are so troublesome, never found a vn owner who doesn't have troubles.

    EDIT:
yeah i'd probably have problems with those cars too. you get what you pay for. well, actually i got less because i was ripped... but my car was worth 2 grand so yeah. maybe if i fix up all my problems i'll get a nice amount when i sell it. doubt it though. people will think "wtf, THAT much for a vn! i don't think so!" even though they will have more problems with a different car because everything will be replaced in mine.

i'll keep that in mind when going to the mechanics. $100 in parts, maybe $200 in labour? if it's $300 then i can afford it.

also, on the topic of money and repairs... i have the following problem in my car: it drives like crap. to elaborate on it, the car seems to 'pick up' all the bumps in the road and follow them. so the car doesn't just pull to the left or right or something, it can pull either way depending on what bump you hit! sometimes you hit a fairly big bump and the direction of the car changes dramatically. sometimes it's a fight to keep the car going nice and straight because of the amount of corrections you need to make on the steering wheel. in my dad's magna, if you hold the steering wheel straight, the car goes straight. same with other cars i drive. not the case with mine though, i'm forever correcting the wheel. now it could be a wheel alignment, but unlikely as i had this problem and had a wheel alignment done at tyrepower and it was just as crap afterwards. what else could it be? at tyrepower they said stuff like shocks, struts, bump stops, link pins, strut mounts, caster bush (?) and other stuff i forgot. sorry if some of those things don't actually exist, they just came to mind... but could i fix my problem by only replacing some of these bits?

Your steering issue is most likely caused by your ball joints. But it's probably that and a combination of other things...tie rod ends etc...

haha good point. but the difference is that they will be getting a car which has had everything replaced so they are actually getting a better deal than me
anyway took it in, waiting for the call... if it is the rack he said $320 approx for a rack fitted which is ok. no idea if it's second hand/reco/new. probably reco, i'll ask when i get the call if that is what needs replacing.
had no p/s at all today driving it up there!

and yeah i guess p platers don't have many options these days so 3.8ltr vns will be in higher demand when i sell it, especially on gas

Thats so true about buying a magna or an excel but im glad i spent $$ and had trouble with the car because its all worth it even in a VN to cruise past a magna or an excel and think 'what a piece of **** im so glad im in this'
