Default VN Manual to Auto Conversion

Now i know this is like the opposite to every other gearbox conversion post BUT...

iv got a rooted 5spd, and tired engine. my mate is selling a VP Engine and Box which happens to be an auto and i am thinking this will get me around for the next 6-12 months while i can rebuild my 5spd and engine.

Just wanting to know if i need to change wiring looms, tailshaft, dash clutster or ecu. i have an auto shifter and i just put a new radiator in 3 months ago which has the auto line's with caps on them.

i noticed my plackard under the bonnet says it has a M78 Trans and a GU4 Diff, which makes me think it was possibly born an auto?? unsure.

how ever my main question is how much does putting an auto in my car entail apart from the obvious Physical work needed to be done...

change the pedal box back to an auto and run an auto ECU loom, apart from that its pretty simple

    Cheers Dude,

So wouldn't need a different tail shaft??

Weighing up costs between a 2nd hand 5spd $500, re-bearing my 5spd $1200 (fluridrive) Rebuild my 5spd (2500-3k) or spend $250 on this auto n donk and learn how to -re build my own manual.

Hrmm as i thought. besides the special tools and a press, is it complex, i work at an engineering company, we have a 3tonne press and i can get my hands on nearly any tool needed, i have read a manual on rebuilding the bloody thing it doesnt look complex but then i dont have to 200 odd parts in ffront of me i can get a Bearing and syncro kit from a shop called "the gearbox" on ebay from the us for around $270 au landed here. and i have a parts washer, and large table to set it all out on.

i have confidence but yeah... i just have never done anything like this before.

i also noticed today it stopped making the dreadfull Nocking/squeeking/grinding noise that were coming from 1/2nd anymore, just the normal worn t5 noises. could it be possible that the the oil change i done last thurs has only just gotten into the bearings after like 40kms? as i did notice i only took about 700ml of stinky filthy thick oil out of it and put 2300ml (then it over floweed) of Dexton II in it.

sorry to pound you man but you seem to know ur 5spds and im baffeled with this one and i dont wana make the wrong deciscion when it comes to my battle plans as money isnt real easy to come by atm but i need my wheels for work....

for the price of a second hand box its not worth messing around with rebuilding one....cos you dont know the condition of the input shaft cos if that has pitting on it it has to be tossed out and a new one has to e installed..

thats another few hundred and like i said its just not worth the messing around

Cheers mate, might just go buy that box then, the guy said he would give me 30days warranty on it and that if i install it and im not happy with it he will take it back. not bad from a wrecker i guess.

yeh if its hard to go into gears like the synchro's are spinning fast enough run a thinner oil like mobilfluid 424 or even transfluid for a few k's to lube everything up...

i just run thinner oil(424) in my gearbox cos it wasnt selecting properly when i first got it. its fine now and done 300,000 k's
