hey guys, iv got a vn that had done 400 000kms, i didnt buy it, it was dads car years ago, its been sitting around for a few years, but always started and run for a while. There has been no problems the 10years dad has had it, no breakages at all the only thing being the air con (not a big problem), i was just wondering how many km's has your buik engines have done and also is it worth gettin re-registed at that many km's. It is in good condition and i rekon worth doing up. I know some of these engines can last for alot more km's but yeh just checking because it is a way better car then my S**T pulsar i have at the moment.
cheers
mate just do it. the engine aint gonna die on ya any time soon aslong as u keep it in check, and as u said.... it is better than ur pulsar lol :P
mines about to clock 500 kms...... doesnt smoke - use oil or water and runs as smooth as any other v6 thats done a quarter of the ks mine has
Japanese scientists have created a camera with such speed that they now can photograph a woman with her mouth shut!
yeah mines done near 520 000 and still no smoke, oil or anything
do it mate
they are a pretty strong motor i think (but still gunna rebuild it later)
cheers i am convinced. But i didnt mention that for the last 50 000ish km;s it was kind-of neglected.

do it man even if does need a rebuild it doesnt cost that much![]()
Ive heard of the buick engines doing a lot of kms... One thing to check is the gearbox.
As mentioned though, if something goes wrong parts are dirt cheap.
Its kinda nice to know these cars can do 500,000kms+, especially as mines only done 138,000kms.
G'Day,

i recon these motors could go right back around to 0 again they are a really good motor if there looked after well my last one had 365 on it and it was still going fine
yeh im not really into doing it up, i dont plan to have it for very long (few months) so yeh i am gunna get it regested, and soon, i hate my pulsar.
My poor VP Series 2 engine shat itself at 275'000km...i'll find out next wednesday exactly what it was that went wrong. But I did have low oil pressure problems, and problems with the water jacket. I bought my car at 240'000km, and did a trip from Canberra to Perth and back, and from Canberra to Cairns and back, as well as a few Sydney and Batemans Bay runs. It was pretty well maintained for as long as I had it, so maybe I was just unlucky. It's OK, new one goes in next week![]()
Funny that mines been around the clock one once already and has 517000 on the clock now, just had its 3rd fully reco'd gearbox and head service still getting 10.3l/100klms city driving and 8.3l/100klms highway driving oh and its a series one buick 89 calias gotta love royal purple oil makes a huge difference.
whats royal purple oil.
sweet. does anyone know anything about the heater tap valve thing.
I have over 460,000 on my VN V6 and it's just had its first auto rebuild about a month ago. Engine and diff still good, motor serviced every 5000km.
My girlfriend's grandparents have a VN 5L that has over 500,000km with nothing at all having needed replacing ever. Except oils, filters and tyres

Jordan, don't use Royal Purple stuff it's synthetic, shouldn't really use it in an older V6 like ours as it's really designed for newer motors with much finer clearances etc....(as I understand it, correct me if I'm wrong anybody..) Stick with Valvoline XLD Premium or something like that.

Savage: I was talking about the normal Multi-Grade Oil 20W50 not the synthetic version would be pointless using it in this old girl of mine without a full rebuilt but the stuff works greatid suggest having alook the the following link http://www.royalpurple.com.au/ and maybe trying sum of out yourself the cost saving overall is a lot better with less oil changes i.e 15,000klms oil n filter 7000klms just filter only. cheers Damien
I know of a VN which was sold cery recently 100 000k's after clocking it. Running PM Lubes, lived in Gympie and apparently did 1/2 highway 1/2 city (well, gympie city) driving. Original gearbox, diff, just went through a few alternators, radiators etc.
Wheeewee!! over a mill, that's not something you see every day. I'd be proud of that effort ^^
I'm thinking I'll need to get close to 500,000km out of my VP before I can afford the new engine, so it's comforting news that these cars frequently trip over high kays![]()
