    Default Level 2 cluster question

I'm thinking about getting a Level 2 cluster for the VP because i want a tacho ( having a manual without it is annoying ) but is the wiring there for it to work i.e. can i bolt it in and the tacho will work or do i need some bits and pieces?

No wiring needed, It has 3 plugs on the back that slot straight into the dash where the cluster sits. Seriously takes about 10 minutes all up to take the old one out slot the new one in.

The hard part is slotting all the little looms back into the dash facia surround (your parker light switch, emergency lights, cruise control etc) Even that couldn't be easier.

make sure you get one from a car with the same motor as yours. i think the tacho settings are out if you use a V8 cluster on a V6

    As STEALTHY said.

Also make sure it is a VN/VP cluster and that the circuitry on the back is the same colour as your current cluster. Some are green, some are blue.

There is a switch on the back of the cluster for fuel tank size (V6-V8). Well, in the level 3 there is anyway. But 9L is not much.. Still another 54L before you fill the tank

I thought he was saying that one colour is VN/P, and the other colour is VR/S.

Either way, DON'T use a VR/S clusted in a VN/P. However, you can use the gauges, taking them out of a VR/S dah, and putting it into you VN/P dash (Speedo, tacho etc)

You know you can use a level 3 cluster.

Without doing the wiring, the screens wont display anything, and obviously k's wont click over, but the gauges will still work. Just if you like the look of them better.

Same still applies, only VN/P clusters, and V6-V6 etc.

Perhaps its only level 3 that matters for the 4th plug?

alls i know is that the one i have now is a green backing and the one i got out of it (original) was a blue......however i think the one i have now is out of a lexan so maybe they are green? and yeh never mix vr/s ones with vn/p....big mistake (never done it but herd it too many times to be trying) also i have about 5 clusters (series one vn) in the shed and some are green and some are blue....but yeh pretty sure that the vr/vs are only green not blue?

I think VR/VS are both also. When I bought my level 3 dash the guy asked what year and I said 91 so he gave me a green backed cluster. I removed my cluster from my car which was blue and the green cluster wouldnt work so I had to take it back. He happily swapped it over as he thought mine should have been blue...He thought earlier VN's were green, later blue. Im not sure if there is any pattern to it though.
