    Default dropping oil...

my cars recently just started to leave behind a couple of drops of oil in my drive, and my dads not to happy, reakons its recking his paving, sooo i was wondering if there is anything i can do about it? ie; some sort of 'stop-leak' around tha sump plug or sumthing?

    cheers

Are you 100% sure its leaking from the sump plug?
If you are, either its not done up tight enough, or you need a new plug and washer.

Holdens and autobarn will stock sump plugs and washers, washer should be replaced every so often.

Ya 1st step should be to get some degreaser & spray the under carage, come back to it a day or 2 later. This shall determine exact location without guessing and costing you money.

Common 3.8L leaks are from inlet manifold gasket, rear main seal, rocker cover gasket & rack.

Spray around and clean those areas 1st off and see how ya go.even post some pics might help solve ya problem with some mechanic and forum members who are familiar with the v6 holden and its faults.
    Cheers.

Yeah my mum hates it too. I said too bad for her, it's my car, my life, and I don't want to fix it (power steering leak). I live in this house equally so if she doesn't like my leak, she can put some carpet under my car to catch the drips, but I'm never touching it. And she does it

Considered asking him if you can throw an oil drip pan under the car, T-Roy?

there is one in tha garage, but theres 4 cars and a two car garage, which means 2 in tha garage and 2 infront of tha garage, and it all depends what time ppl get home, n wat time ppl have to leave tha next mornin, as to were its parked, so its always changing spots

Just quietly, if you share your house equally with your Mum, shouldn't you be doing your bit to keep it clean by keeping your car's oil off the driveway.

Then you wouldn't sound like such an obnoxious prat

Is the sump plug only supposed to be tightened to "hand" tight? i do mine up with a ratchet (how tight? not too much!) to a reasonable tension.... is there a specified tension quoted for this? cheers, peter.

"Tight enough" is the technical term for it.

peter65, ye mate, when i say she's as tight as she'll go, i mean just tightened with a hand rachet, not swigning off it or anything, i reakon itll just b tha washer, jus cbf changing that ova, cause it means unscrewing tha sump plug looks like a pre-mature oil change for me...

Just drain it, put a new washer on the plug, then tip it back in. Make sure your drain container is clean.
