hi, guys, got a back fire last week and could not be bothered to put the funny shaped funnel back to the air box, noticed car gain a bit power, is that safe just leave it as is?
Funny shaped funnel? The induction pipe? Or that little air scoop that sit just behind your headlight? I honestly wouldn't be leaving any open gaps in my airbox that shouldn't be there.

If you're talking about the trunk at the front bottom of the airbox, which sits outside it, don't worry about it. If you're talking about something INSIDE the airbox - put it back![]()

lol i dunno if you REALLY gained any power, maybe it's just a bit of a placebo. That little plastic thing strapped onto the airbox sucks air from closer to the grill where it's a bit colder, rather than from inside the engine bay heated air. I'm pretty sure taking it off makes very little difference![]()
my 3.8 made 120rwkw with airbox and then 124.9 rwkw removed so its a difference but not much
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
yes guys, it is the begining of t he air box, whenever got backfire it was blew off, just leave it I assume.
lol nicko that could be just coincidence, consecutive dyno runs my 5L pulled 199rwhp then 202.2rwhp... nothing at all changed. There is stuff all power gain from removing that bit of plastic. End of storyNot being rude, just that these questions have come up countless times before and the result is always the same, if you're really worried about power gains then ignore your airbox and spend some money on the motor/driveline setup. Plenty of cheap and attainable parts out there.
