Default Pogo Stick Effect in Front End

Hey all, My VN is ****ing me off at the moment. The front shocks are crap. They make the car bounce all over the road, even on the slightist bump. There like pogo sticks. Car is lowered with king springs superlows (KHPR - 22SL) and Pedders Comfort Gas shocks (PE- 8731) Parts where put in by my mechanic, who is flat out until after easter. Shocks where installed halfway through November last year.

    What can i do???

same here. Found out it was the left shock making the noise. Sounds like is rattling and wants to shake itself loose when i go over a bump. Also just took the wheel off and i can grab the dust seal? is that what it is? and lift it all the way up.

I'm thinking it's not installed right.

Make sure the cap that holds the cartridge in is tight.

What size tyres are you running and what pressure is in them?

Huh?? Is that the thing on top of the strut tower?

Tyres are 235/45 R17 inflated to about 50Psi

No, there is a big nut looking thing in the top of the tube where the shaft of the strut goes in and out. Make sure that is tight.

Try dropping your tyre pressure down to 38 psi. 50 psi on a 45 profile is too high I reckon.

Just checked, the nut thing is tight. I'm thinking i might go to pedders and get a shock absorber test done.

Did you check it with the suspension hanging? You may want to support the body and put the jack under the control arm and lift it a little taking the pressure off it. With it hanging, the full force of the spring is on it, and it may not move. Tighten the top nut in the engine bay as well.

Ok. I just got my car back. Mechanic ran it down to pedders so i didn't have to pay for the shock absorber test.

Pedders reckon that the left hand shock is buggered and needs replacing. They think it may have leaked. They also want to replace the right side shock for safety.

These shocks are about 4 months old. This is crap i want them replaced free of charge by my mechanic who has stuffed something somewhere.

Haven't disscussed this with my mechanic as he wasn't there when i picked my car up.

The shock should be under warranty. Check with your mechanic as to his labour warranty, usually it is only 3 months. You may have to pay for the labour. Or you could take it out yourself and take it back.

Are those shocks shortened for lowered vehicles? I know that if you run standard shocks on a lowered car they'l flog out pretty quickly it can also cause issues with springs not trapping properly.

No they don't. The only reason shortened shocks are used is to trap the spring.

Bit of an update, car is having its front shocks replaced with the really heavy duty shorted shockers the pedders do. It better fix the problem or im going to sell the bloody thing. I've had enough. Also now the lower bushes need replacing because of the crappy shocks.

For those with this problem, simply your springs are to hard and your shocks are too soft.

Hey, got the car back last nite. Drives sooooo much better now. It now has the trakryder shocks from pedders in it. Also the lower control arms where replaced as well. Not the lower bushes.

Hopefully this helps out other people.

replaced the lower control arm ?
your bushes must have been shot, cant see any other reason for them doing that.
but if they replaced it with new bushes it would feel a lot firmer now and would compliment the new shocks

Yeah they where stuffed. As they are just hanging there, they where replaced while the new shocks were fitted.
