Red face New to it all. Hi. some advice?

Hi guys and girls. Have just purschsed a VP Berlina. Was a cheapy buy, but has alot going for it. It runs well, no leaks and is getting me to work and back with an imaculate interior. Main concern i have is travel noise. There is a constant metallic sound when driving and also when going around corners a little quicker a more pronounced sound from rear wheels. Also when you get on it a grind or rumble grindy sound from back end. Car has been lowered and has sports rider suspension. From visual inspection of brakes and suspension nothing seems to jump out, but alas the noise is always there and very audible when driving.I have changed diff oil but no change and I have searched the boards, but through id post in case anyone has a similiar problem or could direct me in the right direction.
PS. I have caught the bug now, never being a commo man myself, but already i find myself searching for a VP SS (is this normal ?)
Thanks for any advice.
Craig

Craig,

Welcome to the Era of the Best cars ever produced.

I have had similar issues, check your tailshaft isn't hitting on the Muffler i found mine done this before i upgraded to my 2.5i as it was all bent from being hit on Speedhumps and driveways.

also i would be checking weather the tyers are hitting on the "Flat" wheel arches. i had to scallop the return lip off my wheel arches to stop my wheels grinding on them. as i have 17' wheels and superlows.

Jamie

I'm thinking the diff. Changing oil wont stop the noise if the gears are getting worn.
Take it to a diff shop, they wont charge you usually to have a quick drive of it and see if thats what it is.

At a long shot, it might be the wheel bearings, but i don't think thats the problem.

If you can get a video of the noise, i'll be able to tell you straight away if its the diff or not.

Yes its normal wanting a VP SS, i want one too! Red one thanks

hi thanks for your replies. I will try and get a sound file of the noise tomorrow and post it up. That ss looks real nice, this one http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...1&d=1206174977 on carsales looks good for $7000 not that i have the cash but nice and stock. If its a diff problem (which i do suspect) are they hard to get hold of and expensive?
Cheers again.
