lower control arms replaced?

so i got some new tyres a while back, and got them to have a quick check at the time, and they recommended getting the lower control arms checked out by a mechanic.

anyone got any idea what i'm likely to be up for if these parts are shagged, (like supply and fit)

i got a free alignment and balance coming up, so if it's not a hard task i could even have a crack at it myself, then get them to do the balance allignment.

umm its a pain in the pooper but easy

replace your ball joints, costs round $40 each to fit.. ummm i replaced one last week, took me a odd hour? if u got the tools its not that hard

Just as Paradox has said it is not that hard of a job to do if you have the right tools , knowledge etc.
But seeing you asked about it, if you dont have access to a press and other tooling it may be a bit of a stretch for you to do on your own, unless you can con a mate that knows a bit to give you a hand.
If you do it yourself..... good on ya for having a go!
At least your gong about it the right way and removing all play etc before the wheel alignment etc.

Rattle gun and a press.

Without these expect a lot of swearing. :P

Recently redid the whole front of my Calais with Nolathane.
Adjustable Strut tops etc.

Without the help of my mate who works on suspension practically everyday at the local Bridgestone workshop it would have taken me twice as long and incurred a lot of pain and frustration.

After doing this to my car I would never attempt it without a rattle gun unless you like taking forever to do it.

The press isnt mandatory as the Nolathane parts instructions had diagrams for making a bush press out of a couple of bits of steel pipe cutoff and some bolts and washers. But this again takes time to make.

If your not sure on the mechanical side of the suspension get someone else to do it.

I for one didnt know you had to do everything up to torque specs with the car at normal ride height
ie: sitting on the tyres not jacked up in the air.

If you dont do this and you tighten some of the bolts up before you drop the car you can actually tear bushes apart when time comes to lower the vehicle.

And with Nolathane and any other bush for that matter ONLY lube the parts of the bush they recommend.
Otherwise you wont get the desired effect from the product.

when i screwed the thread on my ball joint i replaced the entire control arm for $16 :P, reason being i needed my car the next day and all i had was $20
