Manual/Auto Starter motor differences

Hi guys,
Just wondering what are the differences of v6 manual and auto starter motors? When I converted to manual we compared the starter motors and mine is exactly the same as the manual starter! So I kept my original one in there.. So why does everyone say they are different?

Just found this while looking for the answer to the question......any takers?
I am about to convert my S1 VN3800 from auto to manual, i've got a man. motor/flywheel and box + driveshaft and comp etc. but no starter. i sometimes see manual starters for sale for huge prices compared to autos

P.S trick for young players--i put the manual pedal box in with the auto brake pedal, had to bend the clutch pedal a wee bit for clearance but it makes left foot braking heaps easier

I eventually found out there was a difference, for some reason I already had a manual one in there though.
