    Default Flat Battery

Went to start my VP the other day, flat battery, and no i didnt leave any lights on.

I tried to jump start from my friends Subaru Liberty, battery got up to 12V but wasnt enough to start the car, it would make the usual noise for a second then just go to a fast clicking sound (solenoid?)

Anyway i cracked out my multimetre and ran a few tests.

    Battery{disconected} = 3-5V (slowly increases)
Once i conected + & - leads Volatge drops down to bout 2V and keeps draining

Another thing i notice is minimal resistance between negative(earth) and positive leads (1kOhm)

    Any help/sugestions would be apriciated
    Thanks

sounds like ya battery needs replacing i had the same problem found out it was a stupid thing i had blown the bulb in the boot and the power was gettin to it because the auto shutoff for it was farked so replaced that with a new one fixed it all up and ran fine for about 2 months ohh someone might be able to tell me the car starts fine in the mornin click straight over then when ya take it for a decent drive turn it off for like 5 mins try to start it and it sounds like that battery is half dead it winds over the first time very slowly then it bamgs onto life any ideas?????

yes it obvious 3V isn't enough to start the bloody car, but i'd like to know for sure its a dodgy battery before i go replacing it.

petesvns, sounds like the battery has enough power in the morning to turn the motor over possibly because its cold but once it gets hot the tolerances are a bit tighter so battery finds it harder to crank.did you get the correct battery for your car ,ie has it got the correct rating ,eg all 12 volt batteries are not the same some are only 300 cca up to about 550 i think maybe even higher and then there is 9 plate 11 plate run a multi meter over your battery before you start it in the morning then do it before you start it after a run ,see what the voltage is if they are the same voltage within .5 volts it could be the battery size and discharge rate are not big enough when the motor is hot

pete when you say your battery is a deep cell,do you mean a deep cycle battery ,these batterys are for low amperage discharge and would find it hard to discharge the amperage needed to start a motor. or is deep cell the name or brand of the battery what are the specs on the side of your battery can you see what they are
    cheers
