    Default fading brakes

the brakes on my vp are pretty much rs. have been thinking of doing the vt upgrade but finances are limited, would also prefer to go with new bits. so looking at fitting front and rear slotted rotors, rebuild calipers, better spec pads, 1in master cylinder ( rebuilt ) and probaly a better brake booster.
so what are you thoughts just that needs to be done this weekend.

Master cylinder and booster don't really need to be done. Slotted rotors front and rear and decent pads are all that is really needed, unless you plan to do some track work.

RDA slotted front $135, slotted rear $145. Two choices in pads, EBC Green Stuff front $110, rear $88. Or QFM HPX Police spec pads $85 a set. The QFM's are a bit less dusty than the EBC's. $20 shipping.

i had bad break fad with my old setup, my master was a new 1inch from protek and the standard vn booster but it was **** and leaked a tiny bit.
since ive put the new gear on no more fade, bites damn hard and i know im gonna pull up. pain to do but very worth while. bendix ct pads ar also ok. ive been told the ultimate ones i think tahts what they called ar a hard compound and not needed for streets. cts feel better anyways

Hmm. Slotted discs, are they honestly worth it, or do I just bite it and get the Harrop hub adapters and run some nice big HSV drilled and/or slotted items with 4 pistons to a side??

If your finances are limited just take it to midas or somwhere.

get em machined and fitted with some Bendix, blow the lines and replace fluid.

I would think that should end your woes,

I have always found the brakes on the VN/VP to be quite good, and beleive me I have been close to a rear end smoking the wheels at 110km on the M1 and at another time
been nudged sidways at 70km/h by a semi trailer, wheels chirpin all over the place and the brakes served me well...

I put a 1 inch master cylinder ($55), big booster ($75), VN V8 calipers ($55 both), Bendix Heavy Duty Pads (far better than ultimate pads IMHO) and DBA slotted VN V8 discs ($200). The old VK pulls up pretty damn quick when I throw the anchor out.

    lol ok

My VR 5L is a BT1. I like it was an unmarked pursuit in N.Qld.

Just a Stocker, DBA or RDA slotted rotors are often cheaper than factory replacements.. I've found that with the VN and VR.

If VP are the same as VN V8 (DBA 017S) then you have been taken for standards at $210 mate

BTW savage1987: Just a word of advice for purchasers RDA are made in China and DBA slotted are made in OZ.

RDA may be made in China but to be brutally honest I don't think you can go too far wrong making brake rotors. I don't race, they won't crack.

DBA are probably a little bit better but honestly I don't think I'll ever notice the difference.

brakes done but with some disappointment. bought a what looked like good s/h 1" master cylinder told it leaked a little from the back. thats ok as was going to put akit through it anyhow. brake pedal nice and hard as i like it new pads alround the think stopped brilliant . however the 3rd time i applied the brakes the pedal went straight to the floor sh-t i said that now. pulled master cylinder off found it leaking out of the back. pulled apart cleaned still same thing happening. so back to the old mushy master cylinder, down to repco in the morn to pick up a new one. when will i learn not to do things on the cheap $30 for master cylinder,$65 for kit plus 1 hour labour and the things only good for the bin.
hope i get a refund off the seller

RDA are made in China but to Australian Standards. There is a difference in products made in China to Chinese standards and Australian standards.

VH/VK and probably earlier will take DB017S rotors if you do the caliper upgrade like I mentioned in my previous post. I asked YOU if the VP took the same rotors as the VN V8 as I have no idea? If they are different I have no idea how much they are as I have never asked for a price on them.

There is a big difference between being chumped in one of those stores you mention by getting it up the a$$ and paying RRP. Always ask for a good price, try it sometime you may be pleasantly surprised I am happy with my $200 DBA017S set.

vp series 2 october/ november onward built had the v8 calipers and disc's. how ever for some unnone reason pads are still the same they just made bigger calipers?????. also from what i was told they also ran the 1" master cylinder.
i now have a 1" master cylinder certainly makes a difference especially to what i had. wrong size master cylinder plus we found it was bypassing as well. no wonder my brakes were sh-t. now i have pedal and brake

vn+vp v8 calipers, and vr - vs v8 calipers are same size as v6 calipers. the only difference is ,v8 or heavy duty calipers have the cooling fins on them to help stop brake fade from heat. hopes this clears up confusion. and if you put the bigger 289 mm front rotors on to cars that had standard 270mm rotors you must fit the bigger caliper anchor brackets that go with the 289mm rotors. hope this helps.
