i just wonder if anyones experianced this before
ive had a noise comming from the middle/rear of my car in the last 20km/h of braking comming to a complete stop or taking off maybe 1/4 throttle?
today at tafe got my mate to slowly edge my car forward while i got down next to it to listen, sounds like its comming from the tail shaft middle uni joint
the noise is like a tack... tack tack......
my mate said it sounded like his before he got his tail shaft fixed up on his 5L stato,
im not experiancing any shuddering under acceleration
ill try and get a video of the noise tonight
Check that one of your fantastic tafe mates have not tightened a cable tie around the tail shaft..... Oldest trick in the book to get a few laughs!!!!!
well, ive been under the car about 5 times since the noise started, its been progressing, like somethings worn and its getting worse...
anyway its more a metalic click/tack noise rather than something attached to the tail shaft. i might jump under and check to make sure my unibolts are done up tight and tail shaft bolts are tight, i havnt touched them or anything to do with the diff
anyway they just draw big ****s on my windows in whiteout and vise versa... thats more of a laughespecially when you come back to your car and they'res a group of 40 wogs laughing at you as you try to scrape the dicks off your windows lol, even on the side mirrors lol....
clicketty clacky goes the tailshaft ziptie - or the ziptie with a washer on the end of it![]()
fcukin whiteout i would have punched them

scrapes right off easily with a razor blade which he supplied me with after a good laugh...
he later returned to his car to find a 1m wide picture of the male anatonomy with a I LOVE above it... i didnt supply him with the razor back :P
on the front windscreen.. except he had a group of 30 girls walk past as he was scraping it off lol
now that we've identified that its not a washer or anything attached to the tail shaft :P any idea's?

does it make the same sound as a FWD car going a around a corner with a stuffed C.V. Joint?
if yes, then the above question is also your answer

You noise sounds like a siezed uni joint.Just remove your tailshaft and move the joints if they dont move freely in any direction i would suggest replacing them both. The noise could be from dry roller bearings in the cups.

well last night we got my mate to roll forward and jump on the brakes every second or so, replicated the noise perfectly able to figure out its comming from the rear only, something to do with the IRS
even the brakes, im thinking ill give the brakes a bleed (ive changed the pads and its still doing it) also could be a IRS bush
and no its not the same as a CV joint, the noise is comming mainly from the passengers side but also from the drivers side
i know my front brakes needs replacing hardcore :P

hrmmm just got my housemate to get into my boot and jump up and down, its something from the passengers rear side, sounds like a squeaky bush or something, im gonna get under it this weekend and take a look, i dont think its anything serious... just annoying

I had an exhaust rattle in my vn that was annoying as hell until I found out it wasn't the exhaust... Only started when I lowered the car, I thought it was a loose shockie in the back, checked everything out, all fine. Shaking the exhaust yeilded nothing, I just put up with it, couldn't find where it was coming from, just ignored it for 15 months
Found out last week it's the driver's side panhard rod bush. It's 100% dead.
With any luck yours is something similarly stupid and cheap to replace.
Still haven't changed mine tho

if i had a panhard rod id check that :P
im gonna get under the car this weekend, im geuss is a worn bush somewhere that gets noisy when the weight transfers onto and off the rear end
get some crc spray suspect bush, if noise goes away you have found the culprit. unless it's that stuffed your getting metal on metal contact but you should be able to see that straight away

CRC spray?? do they still make that? i thought it was all bad for the enviroment and banned?
i havnt been right under my irs rear end but i will tommorrow weather permitting,
ive done over 40 passes in the 1/4 since i got my car so i assume the rear end has had quite a bit of a shake up
sounds like somthing tapping steel?
have you gotten down there and had a feel around, to make sure there isnt somthing looose.
Not sure mate but in my experience it doesnt sound too critical, but i could be wrong.
worn bushes somtimes cause the car to ride at a different height and things tap.
like I just replaced my rear upper bushes and now the exhaust pipe rattles on the axel because of the new position.
check you swaybar link pins at the rear too,,check it all
