THat bolt is FREAKIN tight i have a 1/2i Breaker bar with some 25mm pipe about 1400mm long on the end of that an thought i was going to break somthing then.... but it come with some brute force.
The Puller is to get the balancer off once you have the bolt out.. it basily attaches to the balancer and has a bolt that sits in the Hole and you tightn it up and it will Evenly prize the balancer off.
Mine is a S1 vn so i didnt need the puller, with a vp i think you will. i got quoted $65 to do it at the mechanic which isnt too bad.
not sure how much pullers are but i have heard of people GENTLY Prizeing the balancers off by wedging steel bars down the sides of it and sliding it off.....
Good Luck either way

The bolt will be very difficult to undo without a rattle gun ( the things they use to undo wheel nuts a tyre places)
The best way to remove the harmonic balancer is to buy a puller for about $30, maybe even a bit cheaper. They are almost impossible to remove without one. You will probably need to remove the fan to get enough room to use the puller.

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.

Some tips here;
Harmonic Balancer Problems
Whoa, they normally dont just explode like you described!
Mine started rattling last year, mechanic put a new one in for $50 + $130new balancer. I couldnt be bothered doing it myself..
For $50 or $60 for a mechanic to do it sounds like a great price particularly if you don't have a puller.
yeah was guna buy the puller but it was $35, and it thought stuff it. someone else can do it while i have a beer.
yea, most of the time to get it off is taken from getting the centre bolt off![]()
Thats all right, thats ok, I drive a commodore anyway!!!!
