I am getting a vp calais ready for rego and when you apply the brake the brake symbol lights up on the dash, the car has been off the road for a year, i have checked all fluids, the brakes dont feel spongy i think it could be the brake switch, any thoughts? Also i have noticed the engine light comes on very occasional on the dash as well.
Have you done any work on the brakes at all,not really sure but on the earlier cars once the master cylinder brake fail switch has operated it needs to be replaced, try unhooking it and see what happens

Check the VAC Hose into the break booster, had to replace mine when i got my car that had been off the rd... just a thought...
also have you checked ecu codes cos engine lighht comes on for a reason ususaly... or maybe it could be a fault in your dash Grounding which is making the lights come on due to feedback to find a ground... if the light is ligting up "Dim" this could be the issue.
also could be a leaky master cylinder

I'm not familiar with the VP warning lights but if the symbol you are talking about is a light globe symbol then that means a brake light globe has blown.
