hi all, just wondering if you guys would have any idea what my problem is, i have a 93 vp v6 calais i had it stage 2 shift kitted with corvette servo bout a year ago was running fine until lately it seem to slip or neutralise from 2nd to 3rd when i step on it when just tapping the accelerator its fine ive been told by a mate it most likey is the tps sensor is stuffed? as what ive just explained my mate had that same problem in his vs clubby and he said the v6s are worse for this problem, i took it to a auto shop and the guy took it for a test drive and said the box is getting tired but since beeing told about the tps sensor how would i know if it is that? i dont know much about cars lol i dunno if the auto shop is tryin to sting me 1800 for a reco box or not, if it is the tps sensor what would be a rough price on having that fixed and does it have to be taken to an auto shop or can a average motor mechanic do it? thanks in advance for any help, cheers
welcome to the forum, first of all get yourself a workshop manual for ya vp or do a search on forum , how to adjust kickdown cable on vn-vp auto. after doing adjustment if it still plays up consider getting service on ya auto trans. you can do it yaself , its not that scarey. buy yaself a good pair of ramps to drive front wheels up onto so you can get under car safely. buy a trans service kit about 25$, 5 litres dexron 3 fluid 30$. do those 2 things first b4 you rush off spending a lot of dollars on rebuilt tranny. good luck.
hi thanks for the reply mate much appreciated, will check it out.
hay there mate had the same problem wit my commodore to. took it to my mate who is a transmision mechanic and he found it to be the 3rd 4th shift solinoid. it was stuck witch in tern was causing it to flair between gears changed that over and good as new
hey dude @ vs commo, how much did that set u back? i been told few things bout mine ie: gearbox is fkd, tps sensor is fkd, stretched bans, 2nd 3rd clutch has worn out, and what u said mate lol, dunno what to do prob cost a bit just getting someone to look at these things?
Muzza 88, just a thought, vs commo autos are an electronic operated transmission thats why they have shift solenoids and transmission is also tied in with the ECU and engine management system. vn + vp transmissions work by pressure and hydraulic pump circulating fluid , so solving problems on a vs tranny will be different to a vp . try the basics first , adjust kickdown cable , then do a service on trans , then if still no luck get advice from the tranny experts.
