    Default Exhaust Smoke

    Hey guys

Is it normal to have the exhaust constantly smoking ? its not noticeable driving the car but say sitting with the hatch up while its warming up once its been idling for a while will start to emit plumes of white smoke....

Theres also a buildup of black stuff on the exhaust where it passes under the transmition that smokes sometimes too (Guessing its oil )
    Could that be causing it?

Might be a good idea to do and oil change to something a little thicker and also check your levels i remember once mine was a little over full and it just pumped out the smoke but once it burnt that little bit everything went back to normal.

    Good luck with it.

It may be transmission oil hitting the exhaust getting burnt and smoking.... If you have oily residue on your exhaust from your transmission as you say i would be very careful... This could lead to a serious fire!!! I would pressure clean it off and have the leak repaired ASAP! It may just be a simple oil pan gasket, which is relatively cheap and easy to do.
Have a close look at your exhaust and tail pipe when it is running...is it coming from inside the pipe ( engine) or outside the pipe (tranny leak.)
    Good luck!

older cars with a few k's do that. Mine have, particularly when idling things seem to glaze up a bit. i just put it down to a bit of wear and tear.

I think he is talking about smoke from out the back of his exhaust, not from the engine bay. So that woudnt be tranny fluid.

I reckon it's just condensation. Once the car has been driven a bit does it stop?

if it is anything like my 300000k camry it will do it idling. bit of a punch seems to clear it out then it is smooth sailing.
I used to have black **** spit out of my Datsun exhaust leaving black spatter on anything that was too close behind me. Worn internals. also had about 300000k's
