do you have to drain the trans fluid to put a servo in?
and if so does the trans have a plugg.?
I remember last time i did the fluid and trans filter I just droped the whole bottom plate and let the fluid fall out of the gaps into a bucket..surely there is a drain plug?
Gone Fishing...
There is no drain plug, so you have to remove the pan. You would think that they would have a drain plug just so you can remove the pan without making a mess.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
when i put in my corvette servo i just undid the old servo and let it drain out of there for about an hour then after that it was fine, a little bit of fluid came out but nothing to be worried about but the only problem was limited space.
"A life lived in fear is a life half lived"
agghh!!!
now to make things wors the freakin extractor are completely blocking the bolts to
the transmission pan, looks like this job is going to be a royal pain in the ass...
Gone Fishing...
NOOOO, dont drop the pan you dont need to, oil isnt being pumped into the servo...
i hate doing them in cars, (CHECK THE RETAINER CLIP BEFORE YOU DRIVE IT, MINE LOOKED LIKE IT WAS IN.. IT WASNT...)
undo the transmount bolts so it slides, get a big crow bar and wedget the trans to the side annd jam a block of wood in there... man its 100x easier out of the car
yeah I know but its due for a change, I havnt done the filter or fluid since i bought it eight months ago, and I just bought the trans ki t from repco today.
so I might install the servo tommorrow and do the fluid/filter on the weekend...since it looks as if it is goin g to be a bit more fiddly
Gone Fishing...
I have just been checking it out and i ca only depress the servo about 4mm and i cant see any clip or ring, it seems a bit inacessable?
anyone got any tips on how to get the first ring/clip off or whatever it is, i couldnt see anything..
Gone Fishing...
yeah it looks that way but there are 2 cutouts, imagine its a clock
one is like 12 o clock and the other one is at 3, you get a screw driver into one of those cutouts and push the servo in and get the screw driver under the sirclip and pop it out, getting that clip back in is the bastard part... mine didnt seal %100 when i did it (looked sealed but wasnt, popped a servo out half the way up the roadhad to limp it home in 1st gear
soo make sure you depress it heaps once its in again to make sure its sealed...
any more questions just ask!
remeber to remove the bur from behind the servo, something most people (even tradesmen) dont do.
