Default Just KILLED another L3 Dash

OK now I'm realy peeved. After converting the new green sedan to A L3 dash and got that all working (Brown wires moved to the wrong slot in Connector 1) I go to put the Wagon dash (used in the sedan while I got the sedan working) back in the wagon and TDE = 0 and no fuel gauge again.

WHAT's the go here Why? I have not changed the wires in the wagon. Can the PCB just die like that? I've tried 3 trip computers in it with no change. Low fuel light comes on and fuel gauge does not move.

AND if I put the dash back into the sedan it works.

Put the dash from the sedan in the wagon and no workies either.

L3 Clusters from VN VP VR VS all look the same. But VR/VS wont work in a VN.

I'm trying to work out why I get DTE = 0 in 1 VN and 100km DTE in the other VN with the same cluster. The PCB looks the same and have the same numbers on them.

It's got me buggered as to why it wont work. Cant find what is the difference between them.

Thats what I was thinking - I've killed it - but then it works in the other car. The wagon has a 89 Calais loom in it. The green sedan has the L3 wires grafted into it.

I've missed something somewhere. Swapped the wrong bit or something. Done something stupid...

The wiring is differnt between the VN's and VP;s the cluster swap isnt as easy in the VP...

Not that its fuel related though...

Hard to diagnose without the car, have you changed fuel tank sizes?

check the colour code's of the wireing plug maybe two are reversed, making the fuel gauge go in
    opposit direction

Nope no fuel tank change. Just pulled the cluster out of the wagon to get the new green sedan going (when the brown wires were in the wrong spot). Got the sedan sorted out and whet to put the cluster back in the wagon and TDE = 0.

I've looked at the C1 plug in the wagon and the brown wires are in the correct spot.

I give up for now and will get a new cluster and see if that fixes it.

    Default Worth a look

This may sound strange, but something worth having a look at, After i did my audio install my LVL 3 cluster was doing the same, fuel light on gauge out of wack and 700+ kms on my DTE, then next time starting it up went full gauge 0=DTE and fuel light on.

I traced it to where I bolted my sub in the boot I had drilled through the wires. Not sure if you'd make a dumb mistake like I did but worth a look.

I didn't do any drilling.... But the chasis man took the tank out!!!

Maybe he messed with the wires a bit. OR MELTED SOME

    That could be it!!

OK tested a L2 dash in the wagon and temp gauge works fine but no fuel signal. Took the trip computer out of the L3 cluster and just plugged that into C4 and it shows 610 DTE. So it must be the sender unit or the wire from the sender unit to the Dash. So tonight I'll run a test wire to the sender unit to see if I can get some life.

Thinking here why dont I try the diagnostic mode in the L3. Hmmm should have done this first..... What a wally.

Car is now fixed with fuel gauge working and TDE not = 610.

It was the wire between the sender unit and the back door. I ran a wire from the sender unit up through the bolt hole for the baby capsule mount and spliced it into the loom (tan wire)

Looks like the wire was cut while the car was being repaired.

Had I not played with the cluster in the first place........

If the left flasher is going to the Press Remote - you have the wrong dash cluster for your car.

To correct this you will need to find the left flasher wire in the (1 of 3 plugs behind the dash) and mate it to the cluster.

You cant just swap the front cover over (lens) and hope it will work. On the PCB you will have the 4 connector pin outs number 1.2.3. and so on.

You should have 1 below marked in BOLD.
