Hey guys,
Just got an immobiliser and keyless entry installed on my VP which I just bought less than two weeks ago.
(Car already had central locking, just not keyless) Anyway $260 later, the guy tells me that the other three are they Motors ? Actuators ? in my other doors are stuffed because they don't lock/unlock withthey remote or with key.
He quoted me at $65 per door to replace parts, at this point in time I really can't afford to get it done.
Does anyone know if I can maybe repair these parts myself, is it difficult ?
If not does anyone know where I can get hold of some cheap ones ?
Cheers,
Glen
I have the 3 motor/acitvator things here. We wants 15each or u can have the 3 for 30bux + postage.
I cant remeber off the top of my head how to exactly replace them, but their not hard to do thats for sure, if you pull a door trim off you will see the little black box. thats what hes talking about replacing, from memory their two screws and the hook.
Let me know if your interested in the parts.
Since that issues seems resolved ill throw 2 questions out there, 1 is that my rear passenger central locking doesnt work and can only be opened and locked manually, i wont be able to get in and have a look at it til this weekend, what in particular should i be looking for to see why its not working? Any common symptoms?
And on the same door the power window wont respond at all, but all other windows work from all switches. Before it completely stopped working it would occasionally work from the button near the driver but not the door button. Is that a hint to the issue?
Could be sticking or bent back door lever or knob.
Mate try taking the whole lock out. Remove the actuator from the lock assembly two screws and test with remote to see if the actuator goes up and down. If it does, its not your actuator its the lock mechanism needing a clean and free up.
I say this because the same problem was on my brothers car we though it was the actuator, changed it but it didn't work till be cleaned and lubed the lock.
best method for replacing the actuators is a 8mm drill.
take off the door lining, put yr hand in and feel were the holes are that hold the actuator onto the door frame.
yeah the silly part is they are on the inside and are almost bloody impossible to access unless you pull the whole lot out .
so just feel where the holes are then drill from the opposite side, bobs yr uncle you will have perfect access holes for a philips head scewdriver,
you can replace them with ease.
Gone Fishing...
Sorry to keep you waiting mate, unfortunately I didn't get time to do it in the end. Not enough hours in the day i'm afraid.
I'll give you a PM to let you know if I will need parts (if you still have them them of course),when I get a chance to have a look at the car.
Cheers mate
Glen
Nearly everyone i know with a VN/VP has the same problem with the left hand rear door
In mine it was the rod that bent a little out of whack so the snipper button wasn't going up far enough to unlock the door (manually pulling the snipper button up would work of course)
Cheapest fix for mine was to bend the rod a little and remove the orange clip from the snipper button so the door opens and closes but the snipper button just sits in the closed position
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
