how to jack it?

ok, so i'm going to take a look at the rubber mounts and th bump stops on my exhaust because at idle it's been rattling like all buggery lately and generally making my car sound like a pos at the lights.

anyway, most of the guides to do with lifting the car up (like for brake pads and stuff ) mention using a trolley jack under the diff then axle stands. i don't have a trolley jack, but i have stands.

i was thinking i only really need access to the passenger side where the exhaust runs, would it be safe to jack up the front passenger, then axle stand that, then the rear passenger and axle stand that (with chocks under the front and rear drivers sides)

I personelly dont like jacking one side of a car up, I always jack both rear wheel or both front, not one of each, or just one. You could use a bottle jack or similar on the diff and then get stands under, but a trolley jack is safer and easier. I suggest you buy a trolley jack it will come in handy alot.

^^ Agreed. There are some very well priced trolley jacks around now, especially if you wait for a sale at ricerbahn or something.

Jack one side up, put it on stands, jack the other side up...

Sure you may have to do it four times, get over it or buy a trolley jack.

My car is too low to properly use a trolley jack anyway. I always just jack each sides.

Dont **** around with cheap jacks, i bought a cheap one caus i was desperate, and it is so dangerous, it takes alot of pressure to get the lock on, and the release just hammers down, i had the car hit my elbow and nearly crush my arm caus it came down so fast i didnt have enough room to get out of the way. The reason i was in the way is caus the pole is so short when jacking a diff you need to get under the car a bit, also they dont seem to go as low as the quality ones.
My mate has an industrial one i used the other week, and it fits under so nicely no mucking around, goes alot higher, and is very easy to raise and lower the car safely, also alot more stable. As soon as i get some money spare i will be buying a decent jack caus its not worth ****ign around with cheap jacks.

I made sure i spent a bit on a decent trolley jack through my mechanic. I don't wanna fart ass around and have my car drop suddenly from a cheap ass jack giving way. The suspension really doesn't take a liking to hitting the ground suddenly.

I made sure i got a good jack too cause i was worried about this to. 2.5t with a 1m long handle. Im very happy with it, and red make's it go faster

If you think your car is too low to get a trolley jack under, just get a couple of pieces of 50mm x about 450mm timber (angle cut one end) and drive up onto it. If still not high enough put 2 or 3 pieces of 50mm together (nailed) with angled end and put it after the 1st piece. Makes a ramp that by adding pieces of timber lifts the car high enough to get the jack under. Works for me.
