Was driving my vn the other day and it just stoped, now the starter wont turn it over but i can turn the engine by hand in reverse, but not in the clockwise direction. So its not the motor, any ideas most appreciated!
How is your battery and terminals? Check to make sure all the connections are clean and tight. Do you have dash lights? Turn the ignition to on and turn your headlights on and see what happens.
yeah that was my first thought so i tried jump starting it, but the same problem. I cant turn the engine over by hand (with a socket and breaker bar) in a clockwise direction.... The only thing i can think of is the tranny?
Did it cut out whilst driving? Could be the start-in-gear prevention circuit.

Actually, can you hear the starter solenoid click when you turn the key?

Na its not the starter, it stopped whilst it was driving.
Does the v6 have a counter balance shaft?
Thought it is strange though how i could turn the motor over by hand in reverse, and then as soon as i try to turn it clockwise by hand it offers too much resistance.....
Suppose there could be something inside the motor fouling the rotation.
Has anyone ever encountered this before
It will have resistance turning it by hand because of compression. Take all the plugs out and try turning it.
I still think it is electrical, either alternator and it drained the battery or loose/dirty connections.
You'd expect a charge light if it were alternator. Still I think your right about it being electrical.

Get your ecu checked for fault codes. If its electrical might pick up the problem.

Thanks for all your input guys, turned out to be a seized alternator, we loosened the belt and then it turned over no probs.
Crazy something so simple can freeze the whole engine, the starter just didnt have the power to overpower it!
Thanks again
